: Truck is hard to start no matter temp.
C. Bagley 02-25-2008, 04:17 PM Two Saturdays ago I did my usual Preventative Maintenance on my 05 LLY. Changed both fuel filters and checked for codes, well 2 codes 1093 (figured cause it was PAST time to change filters) and 0299 (turbo code). Well this past Saturday the truck takes about 5 seconds of turning over before it will start. It doesnt matter if the truck has been 50 miles or 5 miles or if the temp is 34*F or 75*F it doesnt want to start right away. I took it to Auto Zone to have them check the electrical sys. Everything checked good (both batteries and alternator). The truck turns over but just will not start right up and is throwing no codes either.
Also have had one of CITI's Mileage tunes in the truck for the past 2 months.
Any Ideas and sorry for lenghty post.
plumbr 02-25-2008, 04:35 PM Check the oring seals on the fuel filters. If they don't seal correctly you can lose prime.
C. Bagley 02-25-2008, 05:02 PM will check that when i get back home on thursday from Jacksonville.
Why wouldnt it have done it before then???
plumbr 02-25-2008, 08:13 PM Hard to say, I had one do this and found the water sensor oring with a small tear. Maybe something came loose? Or maybe the bleed screw not tight, sure sounds like it is losing prime.
tomrex 02-25-2008, 08:24 PM Out of curiosity...if you start it, let it run for a minute, shut it off and immediately crank again...does it start fast or does it still crank too long?
C. Bagley 02-25-2008, 08:40 PM havent tried that yet tomrex. I do know that once it starts it will not shut off unless you turn the key to shut it off or open the bleeder screw and let air in. Those 2 methods have been done with the same result the truck cut off. I will check all three orings when I get back from Jacksonville. thanks for the help
tomrex 02-25-2008, 09:44 PM Seems to me that if you shut it down and fired it right back up...if it starts normal, your problem is air in the mix...if it still cranks the same 5 seconds, i'd be looking for something else. if you can crank before air has a chance at getting in and it's still hard to start...well you get the idea. this may not be the most kosher way to do it, but i think it may tell ya something. (:
C. Bagley 02-28-2008, 05:33 PM ok got home today and starrted messing around with the truck to see what the problem is. Well i managed to get it to start after about 5 seconds of it turning over but not starting. I then let it run for a few minutes at idle but it was running rough as a cob. I then checked both fuel filters and neither one were leaking. I cut the truck off walked inside for a few minutes wet back out checked filters no fuel leaking so i started the truck but it started after about 3 seconds. It didnt run as rough so i cut it off and walked in for about 20 minutes went back out and it took another 5 seconds to start. this thing has me as confused as a termite in a yo yo!!!!
speeddrive1 02-28-2008, 05:45 PM I think what he was trying to tell you is that just because there is no fuel leaking out doesn't mean that air can't leak in. It could be letting air in to the system.
beermccoy 02-28-2008, 05:53 PM Just my $.02, but to me it seems like you have air somewhere in the fuel system or a slight leak which causes a slight loss of vacuum.
You could try to pressurize the fuel tank while bleeding.
C. Bagley 02-28-2008, 05:57 PM taking it to my very friendly service department tomorrow. I figured hell why not I havent seen them in awhile and get good service so why not let the professional handle it before i get frustrated.
plumbr 02-28-2008, 06:38 PM Keep us posted on the outcome, you've got me interested now.
C. Bagley 03-03-2008, 07:57 PM I believe the problem was a bad load of fuel. I had my dad meet me at Sears to get some work done on my work truck, I told him to go fill it up cause it was low. As soon as he fueled it and got back on the interstate he said the run starting runing a lot better. I could cut it off and let it set for hours on end and it would start back up. It never went to the dealer seems to have corrected itself.
plumbr 03-03-2008, 10:10 PM Glad to hear.
C. Bagley 03-04-2008, 12:39 AM Last time i ever fuel up anywhere other than a truck stop
