Hey all! i was plugging my truck in the other day and it sparked close the the plug in end of the cord. Must have a short in it i guess.
My question is do you think my cord is shot or do i have a fuse somewhere that might have blown when it sparked? Cause i plugged in the other day and my engine was 19 when i started it up the next mornin so it definitely aint workin!
Thanks for the advice!

Mine does the same thing...........started burning up the cord the other night.......does the plug show any corrosion? Mine did and I cleaned it with a wire brush.........seemed to solve the problem.........
I also wonder how I know the block heater is working?
see there is no corrosion on mine and i cant even find where the wire is showing through where the spark came from!
to tell if the block heater is working you should notice a big difference in engine temp when first starting your truck!
anyone have any idea on the fuse or if there is one?

Just do a search on block heaters.

Shouldn't be a fuse.
When you plug in a cold truck, you'll here some crackling and poppin' coming from the engine block as the block heater element warms the coolant.
I have a little gadget called "Plug Alive" (there's a pic in my garage) that I just plug in inline between the block heater plug and household extension cord which tells me that the block heater is working.
If you're using an extension cord, be sure that it's big enough - I used to use a 16 guage (50 ft) and the ends melted over time. Now using a 12 guage and all seems fine.
Engine temp for me not that noticeable when I first start up...takes a bit of driving to really warm up a diesel.
Like "badassbronco69" said, do a search.
ya its either my cord or my heating element! i need to get a "Plug alive" like your talkin about and see what it is! I would guess its the cord since it sparked.
Well thanks for the info guys i will get her figured out!

I had mine replaced a year ago while it was still under the extended warranty. Mine slightly dims the lights in the garage when I plug mine in.
see thats wierd i have never noticed anything like that. when the plug was working my engine temp would be around the 90's or so when it was really cold and i never noticed a noise from the truck to show that it was working or dim in my garage lights. Wierd.
Do i have to get the cord from a dealer or do automotive shops carry them or order them? Any ideas?
Thanks!!!
nevermind i just found the answer on where to get the cord!
