I am intersted in a little louder horn that will be a (more or less) standard replacement for stock. There are lots of interesting threads on air horns/train horns, but I need something a little "tamer." Does anyone know or have experinece with an aftermarket brand that has a good sound.
Thanks,
Todd

This will tell my age but if you can find a junk yard that has old (1950's) cars get a 6 volt horn. When hooked to 12v they are much louder than stock but will fit under the hood or just behind the grill.
I used to change all my cars. I assume that this will work with the newer cars and trucks.

I am interested in the responses to this thread. I too want a louder horn, but drive on gravel roads a lot and am afraid than an air horn mounted underneath would be beat to death in short order.

ELECTRIC POWERED-VERY LOUD. Two durable red plastic trumpets produce the same powerful sound as an air horn. Only two wires to connect, installs in minutes to vehicle's existing horn system. Ideal for all 12 volt vehicles. DOES NOT REQUIRE A COMPRESSOR OR AIR LINES. Maintenance free. All needed mounting hardware is included

You could go to a junk yard and get the 4 horns off of a Cadillac. I always like the 4 tone horns better. They are louder obviously and sound a lot fuller.

That looks like the one we used to have. It's loud, but high pitched, too much for me.

 MaxPower, could more horns be added by simply hooking them up in parallel with the existing horn without causing any problems? Thanks

the horns on my dad's dmax have been nothing but a POS since day one .......they have been changed out 3x to date and they currently don't work now. my dad is thinking of taking the billy big rig approach and air horning it cause gm's horns have been nothing but extra weight

Anyone have any experience with Hella horns? It looks like they have a model or two that would be a swap out for the stock horn (not air).

Questions on this horn discussion, So I went looking at the horn in our trucks. It is located under the passenger headlight about halfway between the light and bottom of bumper, If I am correct.
So here are some questions

1) What is the db rating for the factory set up? Obviously it appears to be a Disc type

2) If the factory horn was moved to an area where it is not shielded by a radiator/ radiator support, intercooler and wiring it might work just fine. I now see why these are so ineffective. May not be the horn at all, just a bad location which all the sound is absorb and blocked.

Everybody raves about the addition of the aftermarket unit but that is becasue they are installed in the open for straight line of sight.

Thoughts?

Pep Boys has Wolo horns starting at $20. I installed a dual trumpet "Big Rig" horn, definetly an attention getter. 120 db if I rember right.

Caddy horns also have a very nice note to em. I either want some caddy horns or a set off a Dodge road runner):h MEEP! MEEP!):h

Caddy horns be a direct swap with no funky wattage difference or different polarity stuff I wonder?

I remeber seeing a horn billed for volunteer fire fighters, electronic and loud yet not "illegal" or for only emergency vehicals. Kinda a fake wanabe fire truck air horn sound. Duno if code3 or federal signal or who made it......cant seem to find it now, saw it in a galls catalogue
