Hey all,
I did a search but found nothing on this problem, unless i missed somthing.
I took my truck in to get the High idle turned down to 1000 rpm. Now with the High idle turned off the idle fluctuates during normal idling and is idling at about 750-850. If i step on the brake the idle will drop to about 650-750, if i let off the brake pedal the idle will go up to about 850rpm and fluctuate. If i push the set button it will idle OK at 1000 and if i push the resume switch it will idle at 1250, which is what i wanted. My question is, why is the idle fluctuating while in normal idle mode???? The idle was good before the tech lowered it. No fluctuating....
I had the fuel pressure(??) valve changed before this visit so we know that isn't the problem with the idle going up and down. Wandering if anyone might know what the problem is? Maybe i need to install a switch???? :confused:
Thanks for your help.

I had the same problem. I left my truck idle for about an hour, when I came back it was surging. Forgot to turn of the high idle switch, but as soon as I did turn it off it quit surging. My suggestion is to wire a switch in the cicuit.:rolleyes:

Yep when it is adjusted it adds a standby speed. So now that you have had it adjusted you have to add a switch if you just had it going to the brake switch.

On an 04LLY the high idle is about 1200rpm or so and this is the reason I recommend people leave it where it is.

Thanks, I removed the fuse from the fuse holder and the idle went to normal. Thanks for the reply. MICKD

I find it interesting that you need a switch after adjusting the idle speeds. With my truck (same as MICKD's) it works perfectly and does not surge. The high idle is wired to the brake switch too.

I think there is something else happening here.

hmmmmmm.........

Kennedy could fill in the blanks. He has discussed it before. I assume that they standby portion can be shut off or set down.

MICKD, did you adjust the parameters exactly as I did shown below?

Change the necesary parameters:

1. PTO Fast Idle Option =>Preset
2. PTO Max. Engine Speed =>2200 RPM
3. PTO Standby Speed =>800 RPM
4. PTO Set Speed => set to whatever you choose. this is the
lower high idle speed. I set this to 900 RPM. Factory is
1250.
5. PTO Resume Speed => set to whatever you choose. This is
the higher high idle speed. I set this to 1250 RPM. Factory
is ~1700.
6. PTO Max Engage Speed =>1000 RPM
7. PTO Engine Shutdown=> NO
8. PTO Engage Relay=>NO
9. PTO Feedback=>NO

Try changing your standby to 600.
On my 2001 standby is 800, set is 1250, and resume is 1700. This is how it was when I first wired it, never been adjusted.

I didn't do any of this. I don't even know how too. Is this specific to an Allison or an '03 or what?

You need a tech II to do that.

try turning your cruise control off. on a buddies 01 if cruise is on its 850 unless he hits the brake. if he hits the set button its 1200 and resume is 1800. my 03 doesnt do that but who knows.
