Im new to diesels and I just bought this 1997 Suburban. I noticed that the turbo says GM-8 on it. Through searching and looking at threads, this is not the stock turbo right? I had a code for the boost sensor and when I checked the vac lines I had a cut in one and replaced it. I have 20" of vacuum coming from the compressor and at the actuator I have 15" of vacuum. I cleared the code before I did this and It hasnt come on yet so Im hoping that I fixed this code.

My truck drives great and is so far getting very good gas mileage, so Im thinking that having that turbo isnt doing anything bad. It does take a little bit to crank but it always starts. I keep getting the P0251 code, and its a pending code too. Should I be looking into injection pumps and a shop to do the work? Through search I didnt really find too much good info regarding that code.

Congrats on your new purchase. The GM-8 turbo is the best of the lot. The stickies on the top of the page has a FAQ's and reference material section, you might find what your looking for there on the code. Leo

I have looked in the FAQ a lot for a bunch of questions and have found lots of help but I havent been able to pinpoint anything on that code.

But that turbo is not the stock one and from what Ive read it is the one to buy right.

Check the "VIN CHECK" thread here to see the warranty/recall ,original date of sale history. The IP/PMD has a 120.000 mi., 11 yr warranty. A 1997 can still be less than 11 years in service, & if it under 120k , it's worth finding the original sale date. Any sale date after this date is still within the 11yrs.

I had the vin checked in that thread. It has 140,000 miles so it is over. The only warrenty item that was on the check was PMD replacement at 71,000 miles.
