: Light Towing with Predator 85hp?

I have the Predator set on 85hp and the extra power is hard to part with. I'm going to be pulling a light trailer under 3K lbs and I'm wondering if the transmission can handle the power or do I absolutely HAVE TO go down to 65hp setting. The "seat-of-the-pants" difference between the two settings is very noticable. What are peoples experience towing "light" on the 85hp setting?

Thanks,

Dave

Is your tranny stock? What programmers have you done this with?

you should be fine, just keep it light.

I've towed about a 6,000 pound trailer with it set on 85hp and it didn't have a problem. With my 16,000 pound 5th wheel I bring it down to the 40hp or even stock.

I know I have a lilly, but mine on 85 got hot fast. If you are truly 3k or under and are not running it hard you will probably be OK. IMHO with the time it takes to drop to a lower tune, it might just be worth if to be safe if you don't have a egt guage.

I've hauled 12,000 lbs behind my truck running the predator at 85, LB7, just kept an eye on the egts. Went from North Carolina to Philly no problem... so i'd say your ok! :)

Thanks guys. I will probably have my EGT guage installed before I leave, but I'm hoping the transmission holds up. I did just have the tranny flushed in the hopes of not limping it.
