I know it could be the wrong forum, due to it's not engine related, but it is 88-98 C/K special and i think here i got the best change to get the best/right answers.

I'm looking for VR Straps for my truck (see signature) like these on the picture below that made "Victory Red" for the newer Silverados. Does anyone know where to buy such straps, made your own or made Silverado or 73-87 one to fit ? Pictures ?

Would be great to have such straps ? Any solutions would be great !

X2. I looked into this last year; the '88 - '00 trucks straps are a a different length than the 01-07 trucks. Maybe Victory Red could make a special short run for DP buyers. Takers?

Sven, I made my own straps. I cut the ends off the cables and welded them to the steel straps. Did the same to an S-10 when the cables broke. I'll get pics later. Gotta get going to the horse barn now.

My 90 GMC C1500 came factory with steel straps similar to picture above, at some point wire cable was used as that is what is on my 98 LMC truck has new cables, & possibly may know where to get steel straps, otherwise junkyard may be only source at this late date

I got mine at the boneyard for 10 bucks I think. 88 and 89 had them. I ended up taking the lock assembly and using it with the strap.

so would be 88-89-90 with them my 90 had em but as a 11-89 assembly date IIRC mite have been last year for it, what was on pre 88 trucks cable or straps ???

straps is what was on the trucks up to year like 90 are 91 then they switch to the cables because my 93 has cables. But i do believe everyyear before 90 had the straps I know my dads 86 has them.

I don't currently offer them for the older models, however like most things demand will drive them. Since I'd need to make 20-30 sets to make it worthwhile for tooling setup where I have my stuff lasered, but it's doable.

I will take 4 sets as I know of others who would like them. Thats 16-26 away from this:D

I would also take 2 sets, so than 14-24 away from production run !

Any more interests ?

@ Ted :

I thought making my own. I got the skill to do, but no tools to weld and no metal straps to get. Germany is not so easy ! So it would be easier for to buy such straps.

I need a pair. I was going to go buy new cables this week as one of them broke. Is Victory Red a supporting vendor? I didn't see them listed are they sold by another vendor? Any idea how much they would be?

I'm in for a pair. Let us know about cost, payment arrangements.

So until now, i count 8 sets or 8 pairs !

Let's see, if there more interests to come.

I suppose the price should/would be in the same range as for the newer silverados.

IIRC was about 35 $ / pair - Please correct if I'm wrong !

My 88 had them - Dealership with a good parts guy should be able to find them....

If I remember right the mounting hardware is different from straps to cables. I don't think it's as simple as just swapping OEM straps for OEM cables. I think I have an old tailgate in the barn with straps on it. I'll look at it to be sure and post back.

Sorry - no digital camera.

Straps on '90 are a rivet of some sort, by the looks of it, on the tailgate, itself and are attached the the latch. Our newer ones with cables have a bolt that goes through the same place.

I'm still thinking the strap opening at the end that attaches to the bed is smaller than that of the cable end.

It could still, surely be switched, but might take more than just the straps, themselves to do so.

Don't know if we actually get enough people together, to get Victory Red for a production run of these straps, so i'll try to get some of these OEM straps which Crisk1500 and Snowdrift mentioned.

I'm looking for the following parts :

Latch Right - 6.5 foot fleetside - 88-91
Latch Left - 6.5 foot fleetside - 88-91

See No.8 on the attached picture below.

This part should be OEM on C/K Truck from 88-91. Than GM replaced the latch/straps with cables. I'm looking for the first style latches. Priced at GM Parts Cheap. com is about 30 $ each/new. LMC Truck only sells the newer cables. If anyone got a junkyard nearby and is able to have a look for me, if he/she could get some good used latches for me, that would be great.

If someone has drawings available, I can see what the shop down the road can make SS straps for. The burn SS for us with their plasma table and it does a really good job. If no drawings are available, then I can take the straps I have and make up some drawings myself to see what it would cost to make them. It might be worth a shot.

Rivets could be drilled out and if the hole is to small, it could be opened with a drill too.

I had a look at different vendors, for example LMC Truck, the sell only the newer cable for ALL models, fromm 88-98. So i would think, the older style should fit. Perhaps not directly "bolt" on, but perhaps with some minor
alignment.

Stainless Steel sounds really good, but I don't have any drawings of the straps. The price would be interesting. New in the US about 30 $ each+ S&H to germany. Here in germany the OPEL dealer (which had to deal with GM Parts for the unofficial GM cars/trucks here) calls about 100 $ each.

I have put a 88-90 tailgate with the straps on my 93. I am not sure on the tailgate end, but on the box sides the straps are a bit thicker than the ends of the cables, making it a pain to get on properly, but it did eventually go on.

Left Side Part number is 15724157 ($23), right side 15724158 ($24). Both can be had from GM parts direct for about $57 total with shipping. I have people going to Germany all the time and can coordinate with them to carry the parts over and then mail them from Stuttgart to Hannover via Bundespost. No customs or taxes etc. Let me know.
