Hello Guys, I want to apologize early but I have searched for white smoke issues and have not found anything close to what I am having. I have an 02 Duramax and it seems run great, but from time to time if I am on it hard it will cut loose a tailpipe full of white smoke. At the same time I can here fuel knock. If I let it set for a few hours it is then fine for a while. I did have the injectors done last year under the GM Policy. I just got the truck back from the dealer and they don't know what it could be. I was told that in order for them to fix the problem they would just have to start changing parts, with the cost starting out at $700 to diagnose the problem. Thanks for the help.

Do you have white smoke at idle when you first start it up in the morning? If you do, it's injectors. Has the dealer told that it is not injectors? $700 just to start diagnosing sounds fishy. I'd change dealers.

I have very little if any white smoke at idle. As for the dealer the way they have treated me during this problem I have the feeling they don't know how to work on these trucks or they don't want to. I contacted GM customer service, they took my info and then called the dealer to come to an agreement. That is when I got the info about the $700 to diagnose from Customer service. The only thing the dealer said was that they got a low fuel pressure fault and raised the fuel pressure but it ran worse.
Another question I would ask is if you have a dealer that does not seem to know how to work on these trucks who do you go to?

Find another dealer who has more than one diesel mechanic. Believe me, some dealers are more knowledgable than others when it comes to diesels.

Post where you are and what dealer. Someone on here may be able to recomend a dealer in your area.

If your not running some kind of fuel treatment, you might try doing that.

I had a similar problem with my '02 when it was new. It was due to an injector hanging open intermittently. New set of injectors fixed it.

Thanks Fellas, I still not sure of what I am going to do. I feel that it is an injector problem. To answer a previous post I am in the Eastern Panhadle of West Virginia.

Try running some additive like Lucas, or some 2 cycle oil. That might clear it up if it is just build up in the injectors. If your lucky that will do it!
