I think the dealer put in the wrong parts. There were no hose changes and the accumulator has a fitting for an electrical connection on it. The part # for the accumulator they installed is 89018425. Some close up pictures would be appreciated. Thanks

Cajun86 .... Here are the part numbers listed on the invoice when I had mine upgaded the first part of September, 2004. The accumulator number is different than the one you listed.

15136596 Hose
89018601 Accumulator
15074677 Insulator
15074678 Insulator
15136597 Bracket
R134A Freon
134OIL AC 1 oz

Bulletin reference is 02-01-38-007C

It is possible that GM may have changed part numbers since I had mine done. Also yours is a 2003 vs a 2004.5 for me, in case that is a factor.

Also, here is a link to another post where I posted a photo of the new accumulator.

I took mine in for the update last year when it came out. I can't find the info, (have it somewhere) but the new parts are for vehicles equipped with a compressor from one manufacturer, not mine which was the other manufacturer. Apparently there are 2 different suppliers for the compressors, at least in '02. On mine they ended up lowering the charge from 1.8 to 1.6 lbs. or something like that. That was the other quick fix mentioned last year. It did lower the temp. about 5 degrees or so. Can't complain about Jones GMC. They ordered the parts no problem when I took the part numbers into them. It's when they went to install them the tech. found that update was not for my truck with the compressor I had.

Gearhead .... The TSB is for models 2002 - 2004.5. The TSB addresses poor cooling performance and the fix is to update to a new accumulator. I doubt this would apply to your problem of the AC not working when the outside temp is cold. (2004.5 trucks made around the 1st of June, 2004 and after most likely have the new accumulator. All 2005 trucks should have the new part.)

All .... Here is a link to the TSB, Version "C": (Thx GMCSID)

Cajun86 .... The TSB references part number 89018601 for the accumulator, so it appears both the 2003 and 2004.5 trucks should have the same part. I do not know if there have been any more revisions or part changes since version "C" ot the bulletin, released in July, 2004.

(As a side note, I thought GM changed compressors starting with the 2003 model year, yet the TSB also applies to 2002 trucks???? If you have a 2002, I would check to see if it has the Denso compressor mentioned in the bulletin. Maybe GM made the change during the model year.)

I don't know which compressor it was for. I'll try to find the paperwork. As far as it not running, GM does not run the compressor for defrosting below 38 degrees or somewhere around there (I forget exactly what temp.). The assumption is if it's that cold the air should be dry enough to defrost without the de-humidification help of the compressor. Also a waste of fuel turning it if not needed. I'm not saying you don't need it, just their reasoning. Have you tried to maunually engage it? Press the AC button while in defrost mode and see if it will run. I've never tried this myself.

yes I tryed to just turn on the air and I put the temp down on cold also, maybe it is GM's 38 deg. thing. come on SPRING :ro)

Found it! Document ID# 1539443. Also refers to #02-01-38-007C (July 27, 2004). Back then anyway, 2002 to 2004 model year LB7, LLY. Four pages long. Applies to DENSO compressors. I have a DELPHI, so the other suggested fix is to lower the charge from 1.8 lbs to 1.6 lbs.
