I just orderd my first F250 SD Crew Cab w/the 6.0. Can you give a former gasser the 411 on first time diesel ownership. Please be kind to the new guy. I'd appreciate any tips or help. I plan to get the motor broken in and convert to Amsoil ASAP.... my walleye fishing tournament partner is a dealer.

in my opnion you are getting a good truck and motor. The 6.0L is still going thru going pains but i think the EGR system is causing some of the problems. Just like your gas jobs, regular fuild and filter changes are a must, specially the fuel filters(two filters). Remember that your motor is turbocharged, so idling is also a must if you tow or got a heavy right foot. If you get ANY electronic device to increase power, you must make sure not to overheat turbo. A pyrometer gauge is essential to insuring a long life of your turbo, specially while towing and/or using a programers or plugin addons.

Take care of your turbo, change fluid and filters, and buy good fuel, your truck with last you a lifetime.

I also use Amsoil but don't practice extended drain intervals. If you do extend your intervals, be sure and get your oil tested and continue to change filters.
