Has anyone ever installed or mounted a lock box or safe of any sort in their trucks. I'm talking about a small digital lock box or safe for a pistol. Either under one of the seats or in the center console where it would be readily excessible. I'm thinking about this for a pistol or anything of value while away from your trucks. Maybe while at the airport or leaving your car for stay of time, anything like that. Just for an added safety measure if someone was to break into your truck they couldn't just take your gun from the glove box or so on. I was trying to think up some sort of way to bolt it down from the inside of the box or something like that. The only other thing I could think of would be to cut out the carpet where it would be and tack it down good. Thanks for any ideas or insight. Chris

What year and model?

Do you have a console?

I laugh every time I look at this Topic - reminds me of Darrel Hammond on SNL doing Al Gore in the 2000 debates!

BTW: sorry didn't mean to be totally unproductive on this thread - here's some actual mechanical, maybe even semi-useful input.

I installed a lock box in my truck and used carriage bolts installed from the bottom up. THat way the nuts and washers were inside the locked box and it was just a little bit harder for anyone to rip it out.

Good,

Great place to hide a 9mm or a revolver is just under the cup holder. Find a piece of tupperware that will fit your gun, line it with felt, secure it to the floor.

You can easily remove the cup holder but grabbing it and giving it a yank. One of my friends even drilled a 3/4 inch hole in the middle divider of the cup holder to make access to the gun quicker. There is plenty of room for just about any size hand gun.

No one ever thinks to look there, unless of course they read this. ):h

I have a small lock box in the bed of my truck on the vertical surfacwe just to the left of the tail gate (when looking in from the back). I put it there to keep my keys while I am snowmobiling or racing in case something happens to me. My friends who go with me have the combo.

Also keep a spare key in there.

Thanks for all the info. Clever idea about having one in the bed. I like that. Thanks Chris

Don't know for sure if this would work on the new trucks ....my truck is still on order so don't know how much room you have...but we used to use either 30 cal or 50 cal ammo boxes bolted to the floor behind the back seat. They are sealed boxes, so moisture can't readily get in. A common gate hasp loop from any hardware store will fit in the large hole on the ammo box lid latch to put in a pad lock. The ammo boxes can be gotten at any army surplus or your local flea market.

Another thought on this......we also used to use them for tool boxes under the hood. That was when there was room under the hood. Worked out real nice. You can get a lot of tools for emergency roadside work in one of them boxes and they're safe from theft as well as handy when you need them.....always warm too.

that's an excellent idea - I motocross and always have to take a fanny pack for my keys. this is a great idea...unless the truck gets stolen while you're playing. ;)
