With all the negativity in regards to injector failures I thought I'd share a little positive news. A while back I stated I would keep up with this truck which is owned by a friend and post updates as he was reaching high mileage with stock injectors. I also noted that this truck was all stock but ran hard and with OEM filtration. Well we crossed paths again the other day and this truck now has over 190K on the original injectors. He claims he uses no additives and only fills the filter with transmission fluid when changing it every 15K. Since this truck is used for oil field Hot Shot services here in the South it is fueled up any where along the Gulf States (no particular brand) and #1 fuel was never used.
Maybe theres a correlation between running #1 fuel or not since is is common knowledge that #1 fuel has somewhat less lubricity. Or maybe the fuel here in the South is of a better quality. Don't know but I thought this case was worth noting. Maybe a poll of trucks using #1 fuels verses #2 fuels which would also seperate the North from the South would be beneficial. I know we have seen a couple of cases of injector problems here in the South but from discussions with my dealer they are very rare.

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/confused.gif Am I reading this right ? He fills his FUEL filter with TRANS fluid at every change ? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif That would make me a little nervous !

You're right about that. Theres no way I would recommend that to anyone. Especially if he's pouring it in on the clean side of the filter. This cat is definitely old school.
Broker has been there and done that with no ATF many time over. This should be of no surprise.

I know someone who did about 160,000 miles on an 01 or 02 (not 100% sure) and never changed his injectors. He traded it because of problems with his ZF. Now he has an Allison and has over 100,000 miles last I checked with no injectors problems.

You see....there are injectors out there that will work with not so good fuel.
But I believe....that Lubricity...or the lack of it is the real killer.
I think my #2 injector is about to go but not sure....I have been running some blend of BIOdiesel in my truck since new..never higher than 20%. Last couple of nights I filled with ARCO...in Kali they sell the ULSD...no additives added and the knowledge that what they add is not enough.
#2 injector crept up to +7mm on my balance rates. I went and immediatly added Bio to bring the blend to around 10% for the full tank...within about 10 minutes the #2 injector dropped to around +4.9mm.
In general..when I run the new ULSD my balance rates go up compared with the Bio blend.
Maybe the ATF is really helpling more than we think.

I have had a number 7 injector reading 4-5mm since new. Have always used diesel from a cardlock system (Pacific Pride here in Oregon) and have altered between #2 and bio off/on. Have also used Primrose additive since new. Dmaxallitech recommended I quit running addive for a few tanks and see if any change occurs. After running 2 tanks of #2 with no additive ALL balance rates are now +/- 2.0. Makes no sense whatsoever to me. Planning to go back to running additive next tanks and see what happens.
