I have a 2005 GMC 2500HD LLY. I am currently getting around 15 mpg, I know some of this could be related to the winter blend. The only thing is that when summer roles around I still only get around 15-16, empty. Now my truck is completely stock. I have talked to other people and they say that they are getting in the range of 19-20 with their trucks, stock.
I was talking to a mechanic, where I got the truck inspected, and he said that I should be getting better and to ask the dealer to "re-flash" the computer, he has said the truck "adapts to driving habits".
So I took the truck to the dealer, for some warranty work, and asked them if they could flash it. The guy at the dealer checked and said that he couldn't flash it because there were no updates for the computer. Is this true???
Also my other question is what kind of MPG improvements can I expect with an EDGE Evolution?
Thanks in advance,
Bryan

You might be able to squeeze a few extra mpgs with a tuner.
Let's take this to Second Generation Electonics to continue the discussion.

A variety of programmers will get you some boost in mpg's. I have a pretty decent lead fott in daily driving and my PPE held at 19 mpg. 20 -21 if I drove "normal" :D

x2 on the PPE. If you can drive sensible you can average 19-21 mpgs

What do you guys think I should be expecting for stock MPG??? To me it seems like I am getting kinda low. And I really don't drive with a lead foot.

15 to 14.5 winter
16 to 17.5 summer
Those MPG are what myself and 4 other owners of the same truck and model I have. With records kept for 50 to 90 thousand miles.
I one time on a 300 mile trip with a 30 to 40 MPH tail wind got 20.5 empty. One of the other guys that has been recording MPG over this period of time originally said he was getting 20 to 22 MPG on trips with engine at operating temp. However when we started to check the mileage by divide his miles by actual fuel added his mileage fell right in the same brackets shown above. I wish at least one of us had gotten one of those high mileage units that others drive. LMAO!
