: Dpf?

I have a dumb newbe question: Where is the DPF located on an '08 3500 "Doolie"?

I have a customer that goes into regen everytime he starts it now, and of course his mileage dies during that time. His GM dealer told him it actually has no DPF! He removed the Cats, it is now worse than ever. My Tech2 shows something like "Reason for ReGen: Fuel Used". He says it goes back to normal in about ten to fifteen miles empty, won't go back out with his trailer hooked to it. Temp has been mid-to-high 20s here at night, 30s to 40s daytime. He want to remove the DPF if it has one, his GM dealer didn't have a clue. He said the muffler shop took the exhaust system apart last night and couldn't find anything. I don't even know where to look, or what it looks like. I normally tune gas engines.

Thanks, Ed

My guess is that if your customer "removed the cats" (plural), that means he removed the DOC and the DPF. It's easy to identify the dpf if it is there so I bet is is long gone.
Take a look at tbyrne's post for photos that will help you identify the dpf: http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=197360

Was it a cab and chassis - because they have no muffler from the factory - but all most def have a cat and DPF..........

Agreed... If dealer said it had no DPF, maybe they meant it has no DPF NOW, as the guy took both his "cats" off. One of the cats he took off was his DPF. And the engine is prolly going into regen because the guy didn't reprogram for no dpf, so the ECM thinks it needs one as the pressure transducer signal hasn't changed.

Truck will need a re-program with a Quad, Hypertech, PPE or EFILive to install a no-DPF tune and that should solve his problems

Or He Could Put The DOS And DPF Back In So The Truck Has Something To Regen...

But Who Would Want To DO That!!!

Here's what they look like...

The LMM exhaust goes like this, Turbo, DOC, DPF, Muffler, Trumpet Tip (LOL)

Thanks for the help. I don't think the dealer even knew where it was. They told him it would be right at the exhaust manifold connection. I think he just screwed up his new truck. All I have is hptuners, and it does not allow shutting that mode off. He's driving me nuts with it, he is just going to have to figure something else out. I have no way to shut that off, and would be afraid to get caught doing it anyway. Maybe he can find a handheld that will, but I would be suprised.

Thanks again, Ed

Guess I need to look further. All I saw refering to DPF was DTCs. Would you give me a clue where to look? This isn't what I normally do.

Thanks for all the help, Ed

Hi Nick, Yes, this one is a little bigger and slower than what I normally work with. :) Just trying to help this guy straighten out the mess he made. One of my gasoline customers sent him to me.

May have to take you up, Ed
