While installing my boost guage yesterday in the air intake horn between the hose and the intake manifold, I noticed it was completely covered in oil. As was the intake manifold itself. I've had the egr unplugged for the last 5k of 13k miles total. There was oil laying down by the egr valve as well as in the rubber boot leading to the intercooler. Is there a crankcase breather that feeds in right there that I missed? Does the egr cause this and it's just leftover from when it was hooked up? Spooked me a little bit thinking it was my turbo, so I pulled the boot away from the turbo oultet and it's clean as a whistle.:o

Also, after installing the egr blocker plates, do you leave it plugged in to prevent codes? Or is that where the Finger Stick comes into play?

Thanks All!

Yea the LLY has a crankcase vent which goes into the intake. It’s one of the things that was redesigned from the LB7 which just vent’s crank case gasses to the atmosphere. I noticed the same oily film when installing my boost gauge. I’ve read you can vent the LLY in the same way as the older LB7 without setting off a code you just have to make sure you cap off the intake hole and put a filter of some sort on the crank case vent. Admittedly I haven’t had the chance to verify this mod yet, but the positive crankcase venting is certainly going to lightly oil up your intake track.

On edit: I’m sure someone with an EGR plate will chime in, but I’m pretty sure from reading the forum the Finger stick is used to prevent codes when your EGR is blocked.

plug it back in, finger won't work with out it plugged in, or long without it.
