Hey I have been sick all week, and bored to death, so I figured I may as well post up some info, until I get the chance to install these. I have an 07 Classic, that did not come with cab lights from the factory. So I ordered the lights from my dealer. The new style lights use the same style connector as the old style lights. All that has to be done is swap to wires, which is shown in the attached pictures. I paid $30 for my harness from my dealer, I know that the harness for the NBS trucks runs a lot more than that depending on the factory options. I could have made my own harness, but I like the clean factory look, and yes I know the harness is above the headliner and out of sight, but I am just particular, and for $30 I couldn't go wrong. If anyone would like part numbers let know, and I will post them up and if you can't get your dealer to sell at this price, let me know and if I can get these shipped to you for less than your dealer wants I will help you out. I paid about $32 each for the outside lights, and about $45 for the center light.

I have a 2004.5 Chevy 3500. Will the wiring harness work with my model year? Also the pics you posted is that the plug that goes into the elec. box on the passenger side? Part numbers for the harness would be greatly appreciated.:)

This harness should work with 03 and up model years. Yes that plug goes into the passenger side bec. It all depends on your options, sunroof, onstar, XM. The only thing I have is XM, and that it is the harness that I ordered. Looking back we could have just ordered the harness for no options, and would have been cheaper. It will next Tuesday or Wednesday before I can get back into my dealer to get the part numbers, I will just go ahead and get all the #'s for each option and year. But for the time being here is the part number for the harness I have now. 15859429 is the harness I have now.

That would be MUCH appreciated!!!!!!!! I've got an 06 with XM and Onstar and have the lights, just been waiting to get what I need for the harness.

I should state that these prices are not retail. I used to work at this dealership full time, now it is just part time, but I still receive my employee discount. Part # 15859429 is the harness I have now, but as I stated above, I think one could just get the stripped down harness(I mean harness for a truck without ONStar and XM). Scooby the harness I have will work, but if you can wait until next tuesday or wednesday, I can double check my thoughts on the plain harness, and check pricing for all of 'em.

Do yourselves a favor and get just the stripped down harness...I got the harness according to what my truck had(everything) and I could not get the old harness out(runs up behind dash) So I just used the light section of the harness and kept the rest as a spare. You do have to swap the wires at the plug, but it is easy.;)

I am sorry Scooby, I got off of nights tuesday morning, and then got called back in on days wed. I won't be off until Monday now I hope, also I work 12 hour shifts from 6a to 6p, so they are already closed when I get off. I should be able to get in there on Monday though, if not Tuesday for sure, because that is when I start back on nights, so I will just go in early.

Hi everyone...
I just bought the basic harness for my 2005 through oehq.com for about $21. The p/n is 15846970. I'm glad to hear that the plugs match up to the '07.5 lights...now I'll want to install those instead of the '06 lights I eBayed last month!

rgullett, I have the same truck as you and really want to add the NBS lights, so thanks for the info. I'll be waiting for the p/n also. Keep us posted when you actually add the lights. Thats the part that scares me the most.

The part number for the plain jane harness is 15846970, which GMT-830 has already mentioned, it lists for about $30.00, I can buy it for $19 plus tax. I am gettin ready to go install the lights, I will take lots of pics. So stay Tuned!

Here is some pics, any questions?:D I used Floriduramax1's measurements. I slightly messed up though, I measured from the windshield side of the rubber molding, instead of the body side, which will make a big difference. There is body reinforcements, that I thought I was going to clear, but I didn't:mad:. Everything worked out though, just made it a little more of a PITA, and I had to make some modifications to the 2 outboard lights. It still looks good though.

I used his measurements, but as I found out, measure from the top of the windshield molding. Pacer performance will soon be offering the NBS lights, and they do not require such a large hole(I had one 1/2" hole, and two 7/8" holes) for the wiring. It is pretty straight forward just take your time, and double check before drilling. Here is the pic from floridurmax1.

Just thought I would check to see if you've had a chance to find out the harness number yet?

If your vehicle didn't come with the lights stock does that also mean the harness will not be there? I have an '08 and have the lights on order. Would like to get the stock harness if it in fact is only in the truck if you had the lights stock.

My truck has every option but the rear DVD. Would appreciate a part number for the harness if you get a chance, and if I do indeed need it.

Thanks!

By the way does your truck have a sunroof? G. Mcpherson, let me know and we can get you set up.

I haven't been on for awhile, and since then have gotten an 08 Sierra 2500 Crew Cab w/ Duramax. Anyway, I started reading this and figured I'd mention Recon hs come out with the NBS lights, which look the same as the fac cab lights, but have more LEDs in them. I had some of the smoke lights installed yestereday, since I have black acc on my truck, but at night they are just as orange as the fac lights. Pretty cool. I'm a big fan of the fac look, but at night I gotta admit I like these even better. I'll post some pics tonight, and let yall decide. But I figured I'd go ahead an say something since it seems alot of people are in the mood to buy cab lights soon.

rgullett83, you are my hero. In talking to my local parts guy he mentioned that depending on how my truck was equipped the harness would cost anywhere from like $35-$150. MY truck has XM Radio, that's it, no cab lights (yet), no OnStar, no sunroof.

So If I want to SWAP out my existing XM only harness I use Part No. 15859429, right? However if I don't care that there are two harnesses above my headliner I can ADD the light only harness Part No. 15846970?

What was the deal in the beginning of your thread with swapping the pins around in the green plug?

rgullett83
03-06-2008, 05:12 PM
Devin you are correct on the part numbers, my parts guy ordered the harness with the XM antenna cable, but to me it didn't matter, I would just have rather just had the plain harness cause it is cheaper. (I am a tighta$$ anymore) The 2 terminals have to be swapped, because the nbs lights power and ground are swapped. So I rather than just cut and solder, I chose to swap the terminals, takes a minute to do.

Okay, sweet. So same holes, just swap them? How about the lights, did they match the curvature of the roof?

Turboboy87

Did you just have to swap the pins in the connector going to the junction block? Or did you have to switch all the other connectors also (the connector side that goes to the lights?) Thanks

ochoco
03-06-2008, 11:23 PM
I'm assuming the wire switching is for non NBS trucks using the harness. There is no reason to switch them if you have an NBS truck is there?

Also, what is the benefit of getting a harness to match the options in the truck instead of the base one?

price035
03-06-2008, 11:36 PM
Here are the pics of the NBS recons, no plugs or connectors, just hardwired to the truck. They still come on when i remote start it and unlock it, just like fac. I have more posted on the exterior section under the recon thread.

rgullett83
03-07-2008, 07:39 AM
Yes they match the roof quite well. Turbo all you have to swap is the terminals at the Junction block connector. Ochoco the terminals only need swapped for use on the Classics. The only advantage to getting a harness with all your options, is so you can remove the current harness, and have your new harness clip into the existing holes. It would be much easier in my opinion to get the plain jane harness and just zip tie it the existing harness. Less work and cheaper.

Riley, so are the plugs that connect to the lights from the harness the same between ours and the NBS? That is, I order the plain harness for our style, and lights from the new one style, and they work?

...that should be my last question...

rgullett83
03-07-2008, 05:15 PM
You got it Devin, the connectors for the lights are the same. The only thing you will have to do is swap those 2 terminals at the connector like I did in the beginning of this thread. Also that connector plugs into the Passenger side junction block.

Riley

03-07-2008, 06:04 PM
Awesome. I just thought of one more thing...are the connectors on the outside lights the smae as the center light? What my plan is, is to buy 5 outside lights, and two pigtails for them, splice them in on either side of the center connector and run 5 individual lights.

rgullett83
03-08-2008, 01:21 AM
Devin, yes the pigtails are all the same, and I would like to see how that looks, sounds neat. Diesel Dually, your existing harness can be used, just swap the terminals, however I believe that 06Dmaxpower has attempted this, and the new lights will not cover the existing holes in the roof. If you are in good with a body man, maybe he could patch and paint the existing holes for you cheap!

I have seen this thread and thought id stop in and say that the existing holes on 01-07 classic will not work for the new cab lights as direct replacements! I am hopefully getting my roof done so they will! Hope this helps....

....just to let you know the older harnesses should be the same as for hooking up the lights!

I went to the dealer today for some minor warranty work. I asked service advisor about getting a quote for them to put the lights on(truck didn't come with any). He claims they don't do it there.
Then went to parts dept and got prices for the lights ($113 for the center and $76 for the sides) but the parts guy couldn't figure out which was the correct harness and said the harnesses run from $570 to $600 something.

I'm sure I could do the job myself, but not so sure I could do it without breaking some interior piece. I'm also nervous about drilling through the roof.

....Called the dealer my dad uses and they weren't sure of an exact number but figured it'd be around $500 parts and labor.

I think it will be worth it to me to pay an extra 2-3 hundred to have the assurance if they leak or have any problems the dealer will fix them(old roommate had some that always fogged up). Also, who better to install lights on a chevy but a dealer, and I trust this service dept since they did all the work on my 02.

I installed a set of 08 Recon lights on my 07 Classic. I had no factory lights so the wiring etc was easy. Big pucker factor drilling the roof. The OEM parts from the dealers up here were a rediculous price that's why I went with the Recons.

yes the basic harness will work just fine, the only difference between it and the harness for XM and Onstar are the digital antenna cables that come as part of the harness, but you already have those, so just get the basic harness, and zip tie it in place.
