: When did GM take care of the injector issue?
C-Par 01-18-2005, 09:51 PM I'm interested in buying a used truck but I'm worried about the injectors.
I like the GM truck out of the big three. I know the 2001s are a problem, did GM fix it in 2002? Hopefully they were fixed buy 2003.
If not I think GM should replace them. How much does it
cost to do so. I heard in the thousands. Thats not cool.
WHat if they go when you reach 110k miles, you get boned.
HBruns 01-18-2005, 10:01 PM Well, not quite.
They extended the injector warranty on 2 or three model years.
I have a 2004 with ~20,000 miles and do not know the details of hte updated injector warranty.
Burnin Mad Max 01-19-2005, 12:56 AM Actually its kind of an ongoing issue with the Bosch injectors. There really is no model year where you can feel totaly safe. The same goes for the other brands as well. Ford had one the largest recalls in recent history on their 6.0 liter and hell if you buy a new Durdge you get Bosch injectors along with it. I tend to not worry about it. If it happens ****** me,Censored if not, I drive one hell of a rig. Besides, lifes to short to drive a gasser.):h
Jonathan G 01-19-2005, 03:42 AM I wouldn't worry about which year you buy because I have an 01 Duramax with 108,000 and recieved my injecter recall notification last summer that is good till 200,000 miles or 7 years of age.:ro)
C-Par 01-19-2005, 09:29 AM How much is it to replace the injectors?
WYO_DMAX 01-19-2005, 09:31 AM I didn't know there was an injector recall. Is that for all '01s? Could I just run it to the dealer to get the latest and greatest injectors installed?
CalDirt 01-19-2005, 09:43 AM Generally speaking, I believe it was resolved with the 2004.5 LLY engines, which began production in January 2004. It seems that since that production time, the frequency of people with injector issues has decreased. BUt as Burnin Mad Max said, there are no guarantees - it could happen on even a newer rig. Luck of the draw - I've been on this forum for about a year now and have yet to see a post that has indicated any ryhme or reason as to who will have the problem or when.
Black Max 01-19-2005, 09:50 AM Don't know all of the specifics, so someone will fill in the bad/missing info. But, the '01's and '02's have a factory extended warranty on injectors until 200k instead of 100k as on the newer models. Have heard that nothing like that has been done yet for the '03's and up, but that they do some injector warranty work on a case by case basis. They won't replace the injectors until they determine they need it though.
Max Owner 01-19-2005, 10:45 AM Think I read that if you paid injector replacement out of pocket was around $5,000 ish, American. But not 100 % sure. About an 8-10 hour job.
C-Par; you could try and PMing Patrick, Dmaxallitech, or Max Payne (all members who are diesel tecnicians on this forum) and asking about cost. Or post in the Ask The Techs section.
Scotty Seelen 01-19-2005, 11:02 AM I've never heard of any injector issues until I joined this site. Nobody around home has had ANY problems, believe it or not. So far, 34800 miles on my 2001 and no problems.
RickDLance 01-19-2005, 11:24 AM 5 Trucks. 3 1/2 sets. 1/2 set in LLY.
JEBar 01-19-2005, 02:44 PM it is my understanding that GM's injector warranty extension to 200,000 miles covers all '01's and '02's made prior to Jan. '02 .... engines produced in Jan. '02 and there after received different injectors than the others ... currenlty have 83,000+ on our early '02 w/o any injector or anyother engine/transmission issues
