No, My cat ran away from home before I could gut it. ):h When I looked inside, looked like a lot of trouble, so I got rid of it.

Sorry to hear that your kitty got scare and ran away from home before you could give her, her much needed hysterectomy.):h
I don't have the nerve to get rid of my kitty because, I am sure that my dealer will be looking for it every time I take the truck back for service.
We already discussed that after I installed my MRP four inch dual exhaust. Therefore, I obtained a sacrificial Kitty to gut . . . and if needed I will still have a good one to replace when and if, push come to shove.

That's smart. Keep the kitty around for just that purpose. Might save you a lot of headache down the road as well as hassle from the law.

I have a straight thru exhaust right now....not to loud in the cab. I had the woman drive it the other day with the edge and pup stacked.....damn is it loud!! It sounds like a cross between a 454 and a jet air craft...I really like it! I have a pieced together homemade job right now...my mbrp straight thru 4 inch will be installed thursday...wonder if its gonna be any louder?):h

Sounds like a jet engine at WOT. I dont know if any other mods make it sound different, but it sounds like a hair dryer/hair clippers at idle, its just spitting out exhaust and you can hear a constant 'shhhhhhhhh'. When you drive with the windows down, its very noticable, but with the windows up, no sound aside from the roar at WOT. Totally diff from a gasser, its deeper and you hear more of the engine rather than a 'burrrrrrr". When someone drives next to me, they look at me all funny due to the sound it makes, unlike any car on the road.

Does it sound like a tractor, or a gasser with nice pipes? It sounded like a hot bigblock at throttle. At idle it was a tad louder than my lly with the new 4" cat back. At cruise a fair amount louder but still fine to me. At wide open I really cant tell inside, I actually hear more noise upfront than out the back.

I should add, the muffler on the 03 wasnt much of a muffler either. Dunno what they put on it. Every once in a while my wife would take off to get some lunch from work, and man it sounds gooood takin off. :P

anyone here running without the cat, but with a muffler? I have the banks monster and was planning on ditching my cat - will I still get the 454/jet aircraft thing or am i screwed? will removing the cat make any difference in sound (quality) or just allow my exhaust to be a little happier?

THanks.

Well, besides the turbo being diff, my 03 ran no cat with a muffler and sounds like the 454 thing. I think the cat really quiets the truck down considerably. I wont know for a while till my fingers mod gets here. Thats if I can hold out till then.

It's hard to describe, got a nice big block type rumble, but a very distincitve whistle to it. You won't be dissappointed.

How do you gut the CAT?

I'm running straight pipe (same size ) from the CAT back, except for a nice rumble at start-up you can't tell it's there. I have an extra CAT that I could install for warranty or emissions testing.

So gutting the CAT is next to see what kind of sound I get with that mod. But I don't know how. Can someone tell me please.

Thanks,

Both my LLY's are "cat less". I used the earlier LB7 front pipe to replace the cat pipe completely. Local exhaust shop had a used 1 and gave it to me. Definately increased the "vacuum cleaner" sound. About 10-20 percent louder overall. You can drive all day without a rumble. EGT's on my attitude went down about 75 degress. Mileage and power ????? I had tried a complete 4" system but seamed to hurt MPG and way to loud for 11 hour a day driving. I also left the cat on and tried the no muffler deal. Could not really tell much differance. The way I have it now seams to suit me.
