Alright guys I am looking at buying an 01 3500 Dually with the Duramax and an Allison. The truck has 85,000 on it and looks to be in pretty good shape. It doesn't have a gooseneck hitch in the bed or a trailer brake controller so I don't think it did much major pulling. Anyway I am going to go test drive it and I am wondering what things I need to look out for.

Until reading this board I didn't even realize that I had actually experienced the tranny going into Limp mode before in my work truck while pulling a skidloader. I read that once this happens the transmission is forever damaged to a degree. So is there anyway to tell if this has happened?

But aside from that what are the key things to look out for with Duramax's? I am a Power Stroke man by nature but this is a good deal and I really do like the Duramax motors

Jealous Ford Powerstroke owners? You can check out the normal stuff and check the transmission color and smell. I'd be suspicious if the trans fluid was new. In the ask the techs section, you can post the VIN and it will show you what has been done as far as maintenance work. Ask about injectors, fuel filter replacement intervals. I really like the Allison transmission!
