Someone finally offers bio diesel near me - B20. I would like to run it, but am concerned because our temps here can go below 0 F. Is "gelling" a likely problem (I run additives in my diesel right now)? My filters go all the way to a real 2 micron - any problem there? Truck is a '02 6.6.

Hard to say. If it is local, I would assume that it is blended with #1 in such a way to get you the low temp protection that you want.
An easy to find out would be to buy a little bit (like a quart worth) and put it in a bottle and set it out at night.
Where are you located? Biodiesel is best when it meets ASTM std's.

I'm running B20 winter blend in our 3 work trucks now( 02,03 05), it's been -10 this past week- no problems and one plus, milage went back up to almost summer fuel levels. In the summer I get for 480-580 miles on a tank depending on how much city and how much hwy, winter it drops to 350-430 mile on a tank, the last 3 tanks of b20 have been 470-490, works for me.

Not bad.....
I think a B20 blend is best for everything considered. Works as a *****in cleaner, lubricant, smell reducer, cetane boster, etc.

Thanks for your input - I am in town today, and will go check the station out. Right now, here in New Mexico, we are in the high 20's at night, so no problem, but last year in mid Feb it went -15F, and everything gelled - that is my concern, as the bulk plant had not put additives in the fuel. I got stuck on the highway, but compared to the 100 or so school busses by the side of the road, no big deal. Diesel 911 to the rescue.

biodiesel.org > where to buy it > retailers or distributors > New Mexico
This site only promotes ASTM spec'd fuel.

Try to find out what the Biodiesel is made from. WVO will cloud and gel at a higher temp than Biodiesel made from fresh mustard seed or canola oil and the such (numerous different things to make it from). However Biodiesel is similar to diesel fuel and you can add winterizing agents to it (anti gel formulas). Use it acording to directions. If there is non, add 7oz to each tank full. I have found best results using Amsoil Diesel Fuel Additive. To test the cloud point of the biodiesel, put about a pint or two in a glass jar and put it in the freezer. Check it every 15 mins or so and measure the temp and look for signs of clouding. When crystals begin to form, it has reached its cloud point. When it turn to gel, it has reached its gel point.
