ive been going back and forth with a psd guy on this. he said it robbs power but gives milage. i say it gains power and milage. all i need is a short answer for that.

also he said that to much bio will ruin your engine and that u need to run like a 15% bio 85% reg diesel.

this all started because i wanted to get the highst hp and tq## possable he said fuel got nothing to do with it that anything but diesel will ruin your truck.

It all depends on who makes it, and what blend you run it at.

B100 may loose 10 HP or so (numbers from Super Diesel), and loose a little MPG.

Quality B100 should be perfectly fine in the Duramax, but Ide work my way up.

Im at B20 right now, and I notice no power loss, or efficiency loss.

A good Biodiesel (like mustard seed oil or the likes) will not give any power gains. It has slightly less megajules of power per gallon. You will loose about 3-7% of your power and fuel milage (running 100% Biodiesel). If you run a 50/50 or less, it is really hard to notice a diffence. I don't know anyone who can tell the power loss running a 100% Biodiesel though. Lubricity is another factor though. The lubricity alone will triple in your fuel with a B20 or better. If you run at least a B20 you will triple the life of your truck even with big power adders (hint, hint). I can run 100% biodiesel with no advers effects to my truck. And I won't see any. IT IS the original diesel fuel.

I could swear that she pulls a little harder when theres B20 in the tank.................But that may very well be my imagination...

Smells better though.

With B20, I notice little difference with power or mileage. Engines in both the truck and the VW just run smoother. With B80 - B100, the VW loses a small amount of power and mileage goes down maybe 1-2 mpg. The truck definitely loses some power with B100, more so if I'm towing. MPG with bio falls off very little with the 6.5 as compared to dino. The bigger engine seems more affected by B100. Think it's because biodiesel has fewer BTUs of energy to burn than petro. This makes the most difference in larger engines working harder from what I cantell. There have been a couple of posts here from guys running biodiesel in large farm equipment and losing some power.

Start small and work up.

B20 is a safe maximum for winter in the northeast in a stock truck. - Except B"0" at temps around 0 F or below.
You should be able to tell what blend works best by listening and feeling how the truck runs. Again, B20 seems to be the blend that is becoming accepted for general safe use.

Biodiesel is vegtable oil that has been depleated of it's dense glycerine and replace it with methanol or ethanol if you're me. It's thinner than petrol diesel but with the veggie oils and MeOH come increased O2 content in the fuel oil(petrol has none).
Straight veggie oil would contain more energy per pound and burn hotter because your burning the denser stuff.

Here is a link to some locations in your state. Just pump B20 from there tank into yours.

If you are concerned about gelling you can add Kerosene or some winter type diesel fuel additive.
