Did a search on the boot replacement and didn't notice a DIY for the '93 4x4. I use it on the farm and it is in alot of mud. Did I miss a DIY? The outside driver's side is split. Anyone have any experiences that you can share? Any special tools that are absolutely needed? What parts are needed besides the boot? Should I replace both boots while it is apart? Thanks.

Its been awhile since I did my 93 front boot, but it was a straightforward job. All the frontend parts had been neverseized at some time which made the whole thing come apart without any grief. Recomend neverseize if you do it

A boot kit can be purchase at NAPA for about $20. Easy to do. I 4 wheel alot and destroy boots regularly so $20 instead of $100 is a big deal for me.

A good crimping tool for the clamps, a pair of snap ring pliers (ring will be buried in the grease) and that's about all that is "special". If you don't have a crimp tool, then a dull pair of side-cuts also works well for the clamp. I've done several sets of these and always do both boots (inner and outer) at the same time because the shaft is already out of the truck if I'm replacing one, anyhow.

I've never messed with a remanned CV shaft. I'd just rather keep as much of my stuff I know to be good as I can.

I picked up a CV shaft today at O'Reilly Auto Parts for $59.xx w/ a heavy core charge. Life time warranty. NAPA said he didn't carry the boots anymore. I sprayed the filth off the area this evening. Will tackle the exchange tomorrow. How hard is the shaft to get out of the hub assembly? I have a couple of axle pullers. What is the easiest way to remove the ball joints? I know I sound ignorant but I have never had a problem with a front end or front drive with the exception of a few actuators in my 63 years.
