Good for you! You ordered on October 31 and are just now getting a build date of January 5? That sure does seem a rather long amount of time before it is even built. Is that typical? Does anyone know generally how long it takes to order and build the trucks? I wish to order a 04 CC LWB shortly, but I do not want the truck before February because we will not need it till then.

TWO DOGS I'm in the same waiting game as you. Gave Dealer Deposit on 9/31. Recieved Build Date for 11/24, first I got a delivery date for the second week of December, then they gave me a delivery date of 12/26. What confuses me is it will take 1 month from the build date to delivery. (I can only presume with the x-mas holiday it must really slow things down). I'll wait patiently as long as I can get the same trouble free service I did with my 95 Suburan....
[/list]

Hang in there Triffid. You may be one of the first with the LLY. That alone might make the wait a little easier. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Hang in there guys. It will be worth the wait. I was one of those from the earlier days. Ordered 7/26/01, took delivery 4/5/02. Thank goodness we don't hear these stories anymore. I was going nuts! Time wise, it seems to be more like ordering any average vehicle now. Glad to see there are so many new ones on the way. It will be interesting to hear people compare the LB7 to the LLY for those that have had one before.

Yesterday I special ordered a 2500HD LT, 4x4, CC, LWB, with the D/A. The dealer's computers had the LLY option in one area of the computer, but when the final options were added in another area, the LB7 was the only one avalible. Now the wait begins.

I ordered a GMC 3500 LT, 4X4, EC, Dually with the D/A on 11-14-03. The dealer called last Thursday to inform me that it would be coming with the LLY engine instead of the LB7. That didn't mean a thing to me since I've not been following the discussions, I'm new here.

So I've been chasing the LLY or LB7 thing for about a week now since information has been non-existent from GM. The folks here have provided a lot of answers about the differences and possible production dates. One poster who works at the DuraMax plant said the engines would start being produced on the 4th or 5th of December this year. The basic premise is that diesel engines have to meet a new Federal emission guideline going into effect on January 1, 2004, which among other differences, the LLY does.

The factory accepted the order on my truck with the change to the LLY engine and it's moved rapidly through the first three steps. The next step is to get a TPW, which according to what I've learned here is going to be a while due to when the new engine will be built. I called my dealer just this morning, and after talking to him about when I might get the TPW with the LLY's still being out a little ways, he didn't have any information through GM about that. He did say the Crew Cabs were still being built for now, with the LB7, but all Extended and regular cab orders were only being accepted with the LLY. The official dealer note from GM says some in process orders for the LB7, will be changed to the LLY, but doesn't say what the criteria for that change will be.

If he is correct, it sounds like GM has decided how they are going to clear out the LB7 inventory, and the rest of us who are not ordering CC's will have to wait a little longer, but it may be worth it since the LLY is supposed to have an as yet unpublished performance improvement in addition to the emissions changes..... We camp also, took a month off & went all the way to Key West Sept/Oct & we loved it...People down South are wonderful! This new truck should make it a breeze compared to my Old Tahoe...
Fell asleep early & woke real early, hopeing for a word from Howard.......Not just yet.

I ordered a new Chevy 2500HD on 10/27/03...My first Diesel...Today my dealer confirmed a build week of 1/5/04.
At the time of order I new nothing about a LLY engine. Will the factory upgrade to the LLY because of diesel engines have to meet a new Federal emission*guideline going into effect on January 1, 2004, which among other differences, the LLY does. Do I have to made a change to the build order to get the LLY? A couple of weeks ago the dealership didn't know anything about the LLY except one that came with 220 H.P. instead of 300H.P.
I'm new to the group, waiting to get the new truck. Thanks, Scotty

Who knows is right. Ordered my EC on 11-14, got a call from the dealer 11-19 that the engine had been changed to LLY. Called him back after researching the differences and he told me that the factory would only accept orders for CC's with the LB7, others would have the LLY. GM also issued a note to the dealers on 11-19 saying some "in process orders" for the LB7 would be changed to the LLY but it gave no criteria for the change.

One poster who works for the Duramax plant (I can't even remember if it was here or "that other page" I've looked at so many posts) said that the LLY was not even going to be produced until 12-04, and that there were a number of LB7's left in inventory.

So since GM is not going to tell us what's going on, all we can do is wait until the thing shows up. Waiting for my TPW......

I called Ande Chevrolet in Indiana to get a quote on a new 2004 CC D/A and he told me before I even had the chance to ask "Do you know about the new Diesel?" I was surprised because the dealers locally were not willing to share any info on the LLY. He stated that after 12-01-03, all orders were to have the LLY. Period.http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif He also stated that recent orders were being taken from his dealership to GM with the LLY designation. This is first confirmation that I have had by a dealer. I am glad that the wait is over and I can finally order my truck. He quoted, as has been reported elsewhere, of "higher HP and torque" ratings, New turbo, injectors, CAT, etc. No hard specifics yet. The price difference was $200.00 higher for the LLY. BTW, Ande Chevrolet will build a truck and order at $49 over factory invoice. A refundable $100 is required at the time you order. They will also fax the deal to you if you want to challenge your local dealers to price match. The only noticeable difference from building a truck on GMCBuypower or Kelly Blue book is a 1.5% add-on fee for "advertisment" that ANDE's charge. Mine adds up to about $700 extra. So, the price is $750 above invoice. Pretty good. I will try local dealers to beat the deal before I order from Ande, although it has been posted that they are good dealership. What really matters to me is that I will be getting the truck I want by late winter/early spring. I do hope the LLY is worth the extra $200 and the time spent holding off on ordering a new truck.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

I got a TPW of 1-12-04 from my dealer yesterday, but he says it's still not "committed" to production. I guess they get notifications from GM regarding the five or six stage process of receiving orders to build completion.

So since there is not yet a commitment to production, it's very much a Targeted Production Week subject to change. The dealer says it's the LLY engine holding things up. That fits with what Kool said about the engines not even being produced until 12-04-03.

So I'm rooting for the Duramax plant guys to do their thing on schedule!

Ordering my first now. Last week the dealer told me that some how his allotment and him placing my order did not work out.?? He will try again this week. It was news to him about the LLY initially which was fun to have one up on him out of the box. Said it would take about 5 weeks which seems to be consistent with what you guys are saying. Was hoping to have the monster for a mountian tree-trip for teh family this weekend but that won't be. Drowned my sorrows by frying 5 turkeys this weekendhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gif..... oh the cruelty of waiting. Strung out on triptifane.

Well I think if you'll look at some of the other posts, you'll find as I did that the dealer gave you a "Best Case Scenario" that won't come to pass.

Couple of reasons. There's only one guy I've seen post who got his in five weeks. The rest of us are pretty much going two weeks just to get a TPW. That will range anywhere from about four weeks to six weeks from when you get it. So you're into it six to eight weeks between order and TPW. Then once it's built, best case is probably about ten days to ship, but some of the guys are getting four week ship times.

And the last part is that according to Kool who works at the Duramax plant, production of the LLY's is going to start on Monday 12-8-03.

So I could be wrong and it wouldn't be the first time, but I'd say five weeks is a real fairy tale right now.... And I wish it weren't because right now it looks like my truck will be ten to twelve weeks from order to delivery. That could change depending on what happens with the LLY startup. If they have any problems with that, it'll back things up even further.Edited by: Zeeb

I would guess I'm getting the LLY at this point. My order went in on 11-24 or 11-25. Man, the waiting is brutal. Is the last few weeks even harder? If it is, I might need professional help before this is over.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clown.gif
