: Transfer Flow Tank with Cap on bed
Muddauber 02-20-2008, 11:30 AM I have read good threads about the TF tanks in the bed of pickups and now I'm interested in getting one. Here's the rub. I have a cap on my bed and intend to buy the thru the cap fuel fill tube but I'm wondering if there will be any fumes present in the cap from the fuel in the tank? I sometimes let my dogs lounge back there on long trips and I don't want to have a problem. I would like to hear from anyone using this set up and what you have noticed as far as fumes and safety.
Thanks
Muddauber 02-21-2008, 06:13 AM I think I worded the above thread wrong. When I refer to the cap on the bed , I mean a camper shell. I would like to hear from someone who has used the in the TF bed tank with a camper shell over it.
Thanks
Chevytwo 02-21-2008, 07:48 AM I had a 2000 LB, a Leer LE100 cap and a TF 30 gal Xbed tank. I did that very setup and as long as you seal the bezel to the cap and screw the fuel cap adapter to the bezel, you should have no problems. With that setup, I had to utilize the rubber fill hose to extend the fill line so just be sure all connections are tight. I also ocassionally removed the cap and just had to remove the 3 bolts holding the adapter to the bezel. Worked GREAT and made it easy to fill both tanks from the same location.
RI Chevy Silveradoman 02-21-2008, 09:52 AM I remember a long time ago, idle chatter had the same set up. He is very knowledgable. Maybe send him a PM and ask him!
Muddauber 02-21-2008, 11:25 AM Chevytwo,
Good info! That is what I was hoping to hear.
RI Chevy Silveradoman,
I'll look him up and see if he can add any comments about his set up.
Idle_Chatter 02-21-2008, 12:33 PM Answered your PM - as long as your connections are tight and you vent the tank out of the bed/cap, you'll have a very slight "eau de Diesel" smell in the bed, but nothing to worry about or hazardous to your dogs. I'm now running my tank under a Fold-a-Cover, full photos in my garage.
I have the 50 gallon tank with a shell and have no oders or problems with this system.

How do you fill it? Opening side window on the cap? You will have odor after you've dribbled fuel in there awhile filling it up (and I see a stain around your vent already). No time to trim the mat?:p:
Muddauber 02-21-2008, 05:15 PM Idle Chatter, Checked out your garage. I think that fuel cap area on the outside of the shell looks good. That was another sticking point with me, but I see it's not a problem at all.
4JRJ, I'm also thinking 50 gallon black steel tank. It looks good back there. Thanks for the pic. Are you going to add the Camper shell fill tube also? I will (almost) always have my camper shell on the truck so I'm going to go with that option plus it should help vent any excess fumes to the outside.
I noticed by the pics that both of you have spray on liners. I have a Bed Rug, I may have made a mistake there already since now I want to add a tank. I guess I'll have to do some trimming.
I have the Camper shell fill setup, just have not had the time to install it.

I'm trying to figure out if I want to have a tank shipped and do the install myself or drive to their shop. Maybe you could comment on your experiences doing this project.
Did you have your tank and stuff shipped from the factory? Did it sustain any damage in shipment? Were the instruction sheets easy to follow?
My Transfer-flow tank was in my truck when I bought it in Dec 07. I live about 50 miles from Transfer Flow's headquarters. I drove up there and picked up my shell fill system. Very nice people, they spent over an hour with me going over the system and showing me how it works.
Muddauber 02-22-2008, 09:26 PM OK thanks!
