Well it was a bit nippy this morning at 5am when I cranked her over. -2 with a razor sharp wind providing a wind chill around -25F.

The glow plugs stayed lit longer than usual but after that she cranked over. I didn't have it plugged in at all, had power service treatment in the tank and Delvac in the pan.

I tell ya.....it sounded like the pistons were swapping holes but after about 30 seconds it quieted down and I eventually clicked on the high idle.

Ran like a champ!:ro)

The key to cold weather is fuel, fuel , fuel! Get it from a good place and then treat the crap out of it.!

Just wanted to throw some good news up here on the board.:D

It was 10 F this morning and mine also started with just a slightly longer glow plug, but I think tonight I’ll plug it in. With the front cover on it warmed up quick.

10 degrees here today too. Power Service in fuel, not plugged in overnight, regular Rotella in the pan. Not as snappy on the starter turn over as normal, but started first try with only a single round of glow plugs. I am happy. :ro)

It was 0 here this morning. Truck had been sitting in an uheated garage for three days, but I hooked up my block heater on timer last night for this morning's start. After a couple hours on the heater, "wait to start" light was on for about three seconds and she fired right up. Mirror temp read 18 for the garage, dropped right to 0 as soon as I backed out. Took a good 10 minutes and 4 or 5 miles before the engine temp got up to normal, tranny temp was less than 100 for the full 15 minute and 8 mile commute. Got 15W40 Delvac 1300 Super in the engine, will be swapping over to 5W40 semi-syn as soon as I get to 97,500 mile interval (at 96,000 this morning).

Stupid question here, but I wasnt aware that we were able to adjust the idle speed manually? Hows that work?

Same here! 2F Here, my 05 cranked right up no smoke, had heat after about 10 min. I am not even running a winter cover! I will plug it in tonight!

Check Kennedy Diesel (vendor) for Hi Idle.

High idle requires putting a pin into truck's computer and connecting it to 12 volts through a toggle switch. Your cruise control then will manually bump up the idle while in park and foot off the brake. Kennedy has a very detailed, and well written, breakdown of how to install this. I have started my d-max at -21 before and friends were betting if it would go or not being unplugged...it did. Hopefully new truck will also. Find out tomorrow.......supposed to be -25 on thermometer tonight.

We've been in the single digits daytime and below zero the last 4 nights here. No plug in, no starting issues. Seems diesel fuel/engines have come a long way in the last few years.

I have however discovered a leaking fluid which I haven't identified yet. It'll leave a few spots a few inches in from my driver side tire. I've check all the vitals and all are good except my coolant level seems a little low, but than again I never acheive full temp so that reading may be a little off as well.
