Sorry for the ignorance, but what does the amount of mileage with an EGR affect? I assume that blocking off the EGR serves a similar purpose as with a gasser, but I didn't realize mileage (as in the mileage that you change it) made a difference.

Need 12mm socket (need two if you lose one down the baclk of the engine like I did). Deep-well will work as will short extension.

I used a 12mm 6 point Snap On socket with a flex head ratchet. You only have to loosing the nuts and push back on the pipe then drop the plate in.

Getting into that spot to loosen the four 12mm nuts/bolts is not easy. Getting the right leverage to bust them loose in such a tight space was the hard part. And like skoryaro2 said, hold that wrench tight because if you lose it, it's a pain in the butt to retrieve. Mine got away from me and slid down the back of the engine and it was getting dark so retrieving it wasn't that much easier.

Plus, I spent 10 minutes going back and forth to my computer to read these posts to be sure I was installing it correctly. What didn't add up was the gasket - there is one in there and what I read, and what would make sense is to install the plate with the gasket on the exhaust side, since that's where the pressure will remain. It's a 5 minute install / removal after the first time. I had to remove the black air chamber thingy that says 6.6 on it the first time to get enough room for leverage the to break the nuts free.

BTW I'm working on a DIY plate install document so others can learn from my mistakes :)

Kroutman, I received the blockoff plate today at work, in fact it was my boss (Chevrolet service manager, I am the trans tech) that brought it to me. So I opened it up and showed it to him and explained what it was for, and he just grinned and walked off shaking his head. He has a 02 d/max, so he just cant understand what all of this EGR and Kitty stuff is all about. Anyway, the hardest part about the install was getting the 2 nuts on the pipe to come loose, after that, it was a no brainer. What a great idea and quality part. Keep up the good work. I still have the stock muffler, No kitty, so until I find the money for exhaust, the finger stick can wait. Thanks Again.

If you have a "Federal Emmissions" truck (meaning not a California Emmissions truck), it does not have an EGR valve. If it does not have an EGR valve, then the installation of the blocker plate does not apply.

I do not know what the EGR setup is like on a California LB7, so I cannot say if the blocker plate is appropriate for that truck.

When I installed a blocker plate, it set off the SES light.:( It sure keeps the oil cleaner, though. Can't wait to do an oil analysis to see if the blocker plate has improved anything, especially my high viscosity readings.

I've done all the reading and some threads say remove the plate before going to the dealer but leave the Finger Stick in. If the dealer can't notice that the wires have been tapped and spliced, how will the notice there is a thin plate between the egr and engine?


If I go to the dealer, I'd like not to have to operate on my truck each time.

If you run the Finger Stick with the Plate you should not have any codes. The dealer wiil never now they are there. If there is no problem with the truck (codes) they are not going to look for one.I would leave them in.

I believe Kroutman's post is for the LB7 engines. The Federal emissions LB7 engine did not have an EGR valve, therefore it can not use the blocker plate.

All LLY engines have an EGR valve, including a Federal emissions LLY engine. That means the Federal emissions LLY engine can use the blocker plate. Also, you are right, all stock LLY equiped trucks have a cat.

bubba this plate does not replace the egr it blocks it off. It will not cure egr codes it will make them. You will need finger stick with it to cure egr codes. The plate will keep soot out of your engine. Thanks Kroutman
