Turned the key this morning, the starter spun over OK but the drive didn't engage properly resulting in an ugly grinding noise. Engaged OK on second try. Anyone else experience this and is there anything I should know before it goes to the dealer? I'm traveling and the truck is stuck at the airport until Sunday night, so it'll be next week until I get it in.


Almost out of basic warrenty, does anyone know if this is covered under the engine warrenty? Don't have the manual with me to check.

Don't know about warrenty. I don't think we want to think about what a new starter would cost. could be just a dirty bendix if your lucky.

Could be the Bendix or it could be bad teeth on the ring gear. I have seen, and heard both. They usually sound alike. The only way to tell the difference is to inspect the ring gear.
