: Predator and 6 speed transmission
Str8 Eight 01-17-2005, 08:39 PM I was just wondering if anyone was using the Predator on a truck equipped with the six speed tranny and if they were, what did they think of it. I am still trying to decide whats best since I have no other mods on my 02 lb7 yet.
J-HEFF 01-20-2005, 12:42 PM Hi there,
I tried the predator plug in module a few months ago, and I sent it back about a week after installing it. I have the six speeds in my rig, and I really could feel power spikes when you'd poor the coals to it in either fifth or six gear. The truck was really jumping bad, almost felt like a rig that was loosing an automatic tranny or something. You could watch the speedo-meter and it would just spike upwards really randomly while accelerating. Needless to say I wasn't too impressed. Once I was done standing on the throttle at every intersection I took it on a little 300-mile road trip and got terrible mileage, and that was with the cruise set at 70 on an interstate highway. It also made funny clattering noises all the time.... This is just my experience with it...I'm not quite sure what to get now, I'll probably just get a hypertech programmer, I keep hearing lots of good things about that product, anyway, hope this helps ya a little bit! :ro)

If you were talking about the programmer please let me know.

I have the juice on my 03 lb7 and love it, but I keep on level 3 or less, the clutch does not like level 4 & 5 to much ):h

Yep you gotta be real specific anymore when you use the Predator word. We don't sell the injection pressure incresing Predator only the Diablo Predator. We have sold a lot of them to manual tranny owenrs and they are very happy with it. The reason the 'other" predator is so touchy on a manul is there isn't and "cushion" in the trans like an auto has. The fluid and converter in an auto does a lot of dampening that a manual clutch can't do.
Anyway getting back to your question you'll like the Predator manual or auto, give us a call if you have any questions etc and we'll be glad to help you.

Wickedsprint 01-20-2005, 02:45 PM I have a quad 110 on my truck with the 6 speed, touchy throttle and requires a bit of finesse around the 2000 rpm transition, but still drivable and pretty quick.
luvthesmellofdiesel 01-20-2005, 02:54 PM I had a Quad135 which was touchy around the surge zone (1800-1900), it finally became too much of a pain (for me) to drive w/ the stick. I switched to a VA150 box, it's like night and day. No surge, the throttle is nearly linear like stock, and the power is definitely there. It's much much easier to drive and shift. I have also found the VA doesn't smoke nearly as bad as the Quad did.

Hey thats great we have found that the van Aaken's are much more smooth operationally as well than the Quad version as well.

J-HEFF 01-20-2005, 06:11 PM Sorry guys, my bad for talking about the wrong thing!
So how does this diablo predetor tuner work? What kinda gains can you get from it and does it offer anyprotection? I'd be interested in it.

J-HEFFJ-HEFF,
The Predator basically reprogams the stock tune on the truck by increasing fuel, timing, as well as some other parameters. It also erases trouble codes and can live scan the engine for other problems. There are four levels with increases from 40 to 120 hp. However, a pyrometer seems to be a must if you tow or run the upper levels.

Wickedsprint 01-20-2005, 11:14 PM Does the va go under the hood or is it a reflash programmer like my quad..will 150 kill my clutch? The 110 does not slip at all..
