I've heard of at least one N/A 6.5 in a truck. A '95 C/K1500, IIRC.

From the way my truck towed when the turbo was not working it would SUCK to tow with.

If the price is right you might be able to upgrade the motor to turbo.

ever driven a 6.2 diesel? almost like that. if you like the 6.2 and want a new style dash...oh wait 94 is still old style. Anyone driving a prius would laugh at you as they pulled away from you at a light. Seriously they do get good mileage like a 6.2 with a little more power...dont know if i'd want a 6.2 with an electronic pump though.

the 8th digit is a "p"

"P" is the Natural Aspirated 6.5 - definitly NO turbo. Should be rated @ 150HP.

Why to tow, depends on the weight you want to tow and how fast you wanna go.

not planning on breaking any land speed records while towing. just want to get to the campground. i tow the same trailer with an 86 1 ton with a 350 and a turbo 400 transmission. so it shouldn't tow any worse than that right?

Should be equal or a little slower. The 6.5 should have a bit more torque than the 350, but lower on HP. The 350 could be a race car vs. the 6.5 NA, but it should pull it also.
Also should have a look at both rear axle ratios. If the 6.5 got 3.73, 4.10 or higher in, it shouldn't be a problem at all.

the 6.5 has a 3.73 rear end and the gasser i was using has a 4.10

Should work, with a liitle lower speed, but no problem.

The 6.5 either NA or turbo is not a race car - they are work horses.

if you can get a good price then get the turbo for it. youll be happy with the difference. the NA will likely pull it, but not as well as some of the other guys said. how heavy is this 5th wheel? that could make all the difference in the world.

the fifth wheel is about 7000 lbs

woah....7k with a nonturbo 6.5. I wanna know how that works out. lol. I have a feeling the hazard lights will be on on the hills...

We tow 10k with a non-turbo 6.2, its all in how fast or slow you want to get somewhere. We only have a few "big" hills they are about 6% grade maybe 2-5 miles long at the most. We put a temperature gauge on it to monitor the temp, and haven't had any problems. Now...on those hills we are talking 2nd gear (4-speed with granny 1st), and about 20-25 MPH.

well they were with my little 350 gasser, but i can always put a turbo on later.

But you'll need a chip to add the fuel to make that turbo really work. Keep that in mind. Unless, of course, the N/A's had mechanical pumps, then you could just turn a screw, but no matter what, to get the full advantage out of the turbo, you need more fuel too. Like I said, I'm not sure if N/A's have mechanical or electronic pumps, as I've heard of mechanically pumped 6.5 vans after '93 without turbo's, so that's something to look into.
