does anyone know whats needed or what 700r4 to get. i currently have a th400 in my 68 impala 350 sb. came factory with the 400 trans. wanted to put in a 700 r4 for the overdrive gear. will this bolt up to my motor? and do i need a bypass module since i dont have a computer? i believe the 700r4 came out of a 89 iroc. just wanted to switch it over and i know i need a driveshaft

It will bolt up. I am pretty sure you will need the flex plate & torque off the donor motor, the mount, and driveshaft. We put one from a 1985 Astro into an 82 GMC 1500. You will also need the throttle cable, as the 700R4 uses TV (throttle valve) cable, and not vacuum to switch gears.

You may also have to custom fab the cross member, but it will work awesome.

Runs up to where you hook the throttle cable up on the carb. You may also need brackets from a carbed version. Count the teeth on the flex plate.

your 400 will be much stronger

i put a art carr 700r4 behind a 500hp motor,art carr said it would handle 700hp;replaced it three times under warranty.i paid for r&r

check into gearvendor overdrive

if you go with the 700 make sure you get your tv cable adjusted right

also 93 and earlier only used computer for converter lockup.
i think u can get a module for that from b&m

i think 94 & up did not use the tv cable. tci also has lockup kit

a 400 turbo with the gearvendor unit would be sweet.imo

the real big problem in useing an 89 tranny for your 68 is speedo the 89 version is plug in. i havent tryed to pull the steel reluctor to see if there is a hole in the shaft to convert back to the plastic gear. other than that the install should'nt be much of a problem. detent cable adjustment is critical to operation. try to keep it gm as much as possible. the after market brackets and cables dont work.
