Fianlly got it all done...With 3.73s and 5 speed it would go 70 mph at 2000 rpm

Now with 3.42s and six speed it goes 88 mph at 2000 rpm...

70 mph is now 1600 rpm ultra quiet inside...

What kind of mileage or you getting with the gear swap? I bet it will make the difference at the pump real quick.

actually, lugging any engine with a lower rear diff ratio typically LOWERS mileage efficiency

(this topic has been discussed on every automotive car forum for years)

at any speed over 55 mph, you'll get an exponential decrease in gas mileage due to wind-resistance involving trigonometric identities and formulas that apply to large vehicles

Yeah but with both an extra gear and some higher gears, who knows what the mileage will turn out to be. Let us know what kind of results you see Krusty.

They like to be run at just above the torque peak, as they load up it lugs them down into the torque peak, most efficient way to run them; unless you want to rev the snot out of them all the time.

so whats the "best" rpm range? 1800 +/- 200rpm?

Yeah i have best luck running 1600-1900, as far as fuel milage. Id go to 3.42s myself but it certainly wolnd help me as i pull my truck.

1600 rpm would not be in the lugging range.
