My brother recently had to take his out of warranty 02 D/A to a stealer as it would not shut off. We took the Juice off before we got there and GM ended up replacing his TCU and a relay and covered the whole thing including 1 of his 2 days of rental vehicle, as the TCU took a few days to get. We speculated it would have cost him the whole $1000 if we had left the Juice on! Daryl

Always remove any power adders before a trip to the dealer. Even if your brother is the Service Manager, a GM rep could make a suprise visit and then if he saw your truck...........:(

I usually go to Avery Greene in Vallejo but am open to any "good" dealers within a 50 mile range.

A guy that I know just took his 01 cummins into his local dodge dealer to be looked at and didn't remove his edge "comp" box (much more to install than a pulg-in). Needless to say they checked it out and determined it to be the lift pump. The dealer informed him that they could not cover it under warranty, because they had just voided it due to him having the box still mounted in his truck and hooked up.):h Now he is crying about having to buy a lift pump, maybe he should have took the time to remove it.

I understand the Edge removal is relatively easy but what is involved with removing the Attitude monitor using Trippins most excellent mount? Is there a quick disconnect between the monitor and wire for easy removal?

I have heard first hand that a Ford dealership can tell whether you had a power box hooked up to an 04 and later Ford truck. I don't know about GM.
Anyone heard this and/or know about GM.

No, it unhooks at the controll box which is under the hood. Also there may be extension wire he used when installing it which means you can unhook it there. I think the ext wire is 6 foot long. That is if he used a ext wire to git it where it is.

There was an extremely long post on the Ford web site (DieselStop) last summer where Ford denied warranty on a destroyed engine after looking at the burn pattern in the cylinders and concluding that a power chip had been installed. As I recall, it was a 2004 truck.

removing the edge is one thing, but if you have taken the time to mount your attitude, that's a pain in the a**. but let's say you take the time to do that too.

what if you've also removed your cat? do the stealers get pissy about exhaust mods too? and to what degree do they take this nonsense - will they try to cop out on engine damage being due to a suspension lift, and say it puts "extra stress" on the engine?

our society of litigation makes me very sad. people - mainly companies, can't just do the right thing anymore. but it's because too many clowns abused the laws, and took things to such an extreme with frivolous lawsuits, that many businesses have had no choice but to protect their interests by conversely taking an ultra-conservative position, such as we see the stealers doing with after market mods today. if you're a stealer, why even take a chance on a claim for someone who might be suing you over the work later, or in those rare cases where it actually *is* the mod, why should the stealer pay for it?

in the end, I think we only have ourselves to blame for creating this situation. of course, when I say "us", I mean US consumers - but NOT anyone on THIS forum because DP readers are not that lame to take advantage of the system...I would hope!

no, in actuality it's probably the Ford and Dodge guys. hehehe. sorry guys - couldn't resist. ;)

I installed a rear view camera for my 5th wheel and placed the DIN connector in the cubby hole under the air conditioner controls. When I had the truck in for throwing raw fuel into the bed while towing, I got a call from the dealer. They were nice in the way they asked, but wanted to know if I had made any modifications to the truck. I explained the connector and told them where to find the display in the console storage box and all was well. Yes, my dealer definitly checks for mods. I don't know how it would have turne out if it had been a performance mod, but suspect not too well.
