I've emailed and called two different vendors about using the high idle with a non factory remote start. Neither vendor knew the answer and neither responded to my emails or even called me back. My point of all this is that I'm frustrated! Surely someone knows if this can be done and what kit I need to install. Any advise? I have an '03 DMax.

I've searched and searched on this site, but haven't found the answer yet.

Thanks.

It can be used with an aftermarket remote start. How it differes from a factory RS is that you have to push the button to put it into high idle it doesn't do it automaticly like on the 04.5+

Is the button in the truck or on the remote start key fob? Everything I've read seems like you have to get in the truck to enable high idle, which to me, defeats the point of having remote start. Straighten me out if you can. Thanks

twobros - Fill out your signature with information about your truck. This will help members know what you have and allow them to give you more specific advice.

On the 2006 & 2007 Classic trucks, the cold high idle is automatic and once activated, it comes on during cold starts if the ambient temperatures are below 34F. So you don't need to do anything remotely for the cold high idle to come on if needed. I suspect the the new body style trucks probably have a similar feature.

Maybe we should be pursuing this topic under electrical. I did some post searching and didn't come up with an answer.

Actually we do...yes, it can be used with an aftermarket starter/alarm system. You need to figure out which output on your alarm/remote start you need to use...I would go back to the alarm/remote start installer and let him know what you need to do.

You never got an answer because I just found this buried in Vendor comments...not in Electrical

It can be done - what remote start do you have? I have my 2205a astrostart wired to kick the high idle and electric seat heaters on with the remote. If you have a 2205a I could help ya with directinos - but not with other models.
