I am rather new to the world of diesel pick ups...planning to pick up my first one here soon... my question is this: should i look for a truck with the lby or lly engine? what are the differences between the two? which is a "better" engine in terms of fuel mileage, upgrade-ability, etc?

thanks

The lly has a bit more refinement than the lb7. It is a newer motor and some have commented on that it is not as responsive or as powerful as the lb7.
The lly does have about 10 more hp and about 70 more tq.
I would try the lb7 on a 2002 or newer model. It seems 01's have had the most problems for that motor and the lly is still a little to new.

I third that except don't let the 2001 scare you. Iv'e had 2 of them and wish I had them back. LLY seams to be a hit or miss as to wether you get a good one.
