: Best tuner for fuel mileage?
I'm sure this topic has been beat to death and yes I read the sticky at the top but I'm just looking for some more direct feedback:
What is the best tuner/chip for fuel mileage?
I'm going to be running 295s and H2s this spring/summer and most likely get an MBRP 4" exhaust. Just trying to determine what ways to offset or gain some mileage when running the larger tires. I'm really not concerned with the power aspect of the tuner although it would be nice to have a little extra HP.
cpr_454 02-16-2008, 12:02 PM My Superchips does real well empty highway only driving i get 21 MPG. Through the week I pull a 6X12 enclosed trailer on mixed driving and i get 18 MPG so I'm happy with it
Is that hand calculated mileage or your DIC?
rockinW 02-19-2008, 08:28 AM yea : come on guys if your going to post mpgs please state if its hand calc or not ,every one should know that after tunes throw yor dic off "its not what you think it is" tires can too, cant take you serious if your not doing your math...........and to add my best mpgs are with mods ,syn oils thoughout, optylube xpd, 2000 rpm & TUNER REMOVED! 21 HWY19 ROUND TOWN hand calc no city where im at

dentpusha 02-19-2008, 02:00 PM i had bullydog/with crazy larry and got about 17 on the highway 15in town.i sold it about week ago and am now getting 11.5 at best.i need the ppe quick.also i found that i got the best mpg with the bully dog left on crazy larry all the time
BudTX 02-19-2008, 02:39 PM The best fuel economy that I got with a tuner was the Predator set on 85. If I could keep my foot out of it, I would consistently get 19-20 mpg on the highway, hand calculated. I had one tankful in Texas that averaged right at 23 mpg hand calculated, but that was running LSD, a 20 mph tail wind and no A/C on.
rockinW 02-20-2008, 10:51 AM I think that with the testamonies here its reasonable to expect a highway @19 to20 mpg s out of are trucks but there are those who dont get close to that ..I dont know why, but equiped such as 4wd,duels,5sd vs 6sp, and tires all got to play in.some say tunes help some not, some like to use speed control some not (I dont ,rolling hills &speed contols= por mpgs for me ) I would say driving habits are the best way to cheaply increase mpgs ;2000 rpm ,steady foot (no pumping) ,good fuel, slow stops &slow starts ,decent mait. program, but some say no fun ..... ps dont read the adv. in mags they all say there product increases mpgs ...my 0.02
Unit453 02-20-2008, 11:02 AM Best I got out of my 04.5 LLY was 18.5 with Hypertech set on level 3, straight highway with cruise set for 70. That was hand calculated with an AFE stage 2 intake, MBRP 4" turbo back, no cat and BF 285's.
I did however, once, make it from Syracuse, NY to Richmond, Va in 1 tank with a queen size mattress in the bed, using cruise and rarely getting over 70. I never calculated the mileage that trip like a dumbass but I only put like 20 or 21 gallons in. I dont even remember how many miles that was but it was a hike. I wanna say around 500 miles give or take some. I dont know how I did that so maybe it was a fluke with fuel or something. This was several years ago so the fuel prices were no where near what they are now so I rarely bothered calculating it.
rockinW 02-20-2008, 11:08 AM try 62 on the cruise if you dare..

That right there is why tuners do not help mileage. ):h
But seriously, with my predator set on the lowest setting and keeping it under 65 I can get 22+ empty and towing it didn't matter how fast I went I got 12 going through the mountains (sometimes 80+mph). I'm happy with that. :)
Might be a dumb question, but does the Predator do better on the 40hp tow tune or the 65hp economy tune?
Wrecker 02-20-2008, 01:21 PM I just got 19.1 across Ohio on I-70. I put the stock wheels and tires back on and put the Tbars to stock, Amsoil in everything, Superchips on 2, hand calc. I didn't raise tire pressure to 70 lbs like I used to, that was usually good for a couple of tenths. I probably would also have picked up a little more without the pesky on ramps making me use the go pedal like crazy.

It didn't change my mileage between the two tunes, I just run the low tune because I'm lazy and don't want to switch back everytime I tow. :p:

hand calc. sorry it took so long to answer
hand calc. sorry it took so long to answer
That is pretty damn good!
What about the Hypertech 30029? I know it is one of the mildest tuners out there, which is okay with me. I know you can pick them up cheap.
cpr_454 02-21-2008, 11:38 PM Ive checked it multiple times to make sure the only time it differs is if I drive alot on backs roads with the trailer. Then it will drop to 16

Anybody have any thoughts/opinions on the Hypertech Power Programmer #30029?

Dont know about that one but just got the hypertech max energy #32001, set it at level 3. Give me a few days and I'll figure out the mileage.
05llykris 04-01-2008, 11:55 PM lost about 1mpg.
psyco66 04-01-2008, 11:59 PM My PPE on level 3 gets very good milage if I keep my foot out of it.
