ive heard things about both im looking into the 6 speed my self ive been told that because it is a big truck that the manuals are very tough and become a pain to deal with on an every day basis. with the auto i just dont think that its going to hold up as well as the hd 6 speed would to the banks six gun kit with speed loader, also i think it would be more $ to have to upgrade the auto trans than just put a better clutch in the six speed. and thats not even gitting into the long term dependability of the two. was just looking for alittle imput on my situation. thanks

if u pull alot i think that you would get along better with a 6 spd, thats what im gonna get when i switch to dodge.

well pullin the auto sucks, and overall its just a weak transmission. if you are going to leave it stock and not pull with it then by all means go with a auto, but if you want to mad it and make power or tow then go with the 6spd, it is alot tougher than the auto

or if the rumors over on the allpar forums comes true, we might see an aisin 6 speed slushbox behind the cummins engine in the dodge... iirc, the 6 speed they are talking about is about the same size or a little larger than the series 1000 allison, 1-3 under drives, 4 drive, 5-6 overdrives... most likely would only come with 4.10 gearing as the option if it is a double OD in reality.

Manuals are more efficient. Driving a diesel with a manual requires a bit more effort but you dont have to shift near as much as with a gas engine. More torque = less shifts. My little gas truck requires 3 shifts to get to my house through our backwoods road. The diesel needs only 1 shift. Also with mild uprates or without. You can use only 3 gears. 2 4 6. Its like a three speed. The mile uprates give you more low end hp and make the large gear steps easier to tolerate. Will work fine without. My buddies camaro had a 1 to 4 shift on light throttle. Thats a big step.

Stock clutch is good for mild upgrades. If you go up several hundred lb ft your gonna need a new one.

The 6-spd is a far better Trans, but finding a after market clutch to handle the torque is the key.

nothing... but as of 05.5 model year [built in 05] the nv5600 is no longer avalable... the new tranny is a g56 [mercadies built if the rumors are true]. it will be the only manual tranny avalable in all the dodge rams [1500-3500] for all engine options. aluminum case on it [unlike the cast iron nv case] lower over drive gearing [higher rpm while crusing] smaller clutch disc size [down like 1/2"] i don't think anyone over on the TDR or DTR has taken delievery or driven one of the new 6 speeds.... hopefully it will be a good transmission...
RIP nv5600... :(
