Hi, folks, I read somewhere on here that if you use an additive it may prolong the inevitable injector failure. I have about 140k mi. on my '01 and would love to have GM replace my injectors before the extended warranty runs out;) However I have not had a bit of trouble with this truck and am afraid if I use an effective additive I will have a failure just off warranty. (murfs, law) Should I run straight fuel or is there no truth to this rumor. Lately the truck has an occasional miss at idle but its been so cold I don't blame it. Enjoy the site, keep up the exc. work. Doug

222000km. I think the ext. warrany is about 320000km. I haven't told GM I own the truck yet so I never got the info letter. Its on my to do list. I was using an additive mainly for extra lubrication for the pump. The pumps don't seem to be much of an issue although I am sure they are pricey if they need replacing. On edit, the only problem I had since buying this truck a year ago was a crankcase full of fuel. Got ready to replace injectors, removed valvecovers and each return line had a drip of fuel on it right at the banjo bolt. Tightened all the return bolts and it has been fine since. At that time with no warranty and the cost of the injectors I thought it was worth a try and the chance of having to take it apart twice. Glad it worked.

An ASE, GM certified tech advising an owner to "poor sand in the fuel"?

My comment had as much truth to it as the person who "wants" there injectors to fail.. If you truly believe that to be true, then I will send you a bag of sand. Your choice on grit.

I recently read that canada uses the european EN590 diesel fuel specification. This includes a 460 micron wear scar diameter HFRR lubricity spec, which is what Bosch says the injectors need to live a long and happy life. I don't know how good the enforcement is in your neck of the woods - here in the U.S. fuel regulation is up to the states - half check and enforce - the other half don't...

Based on the injector troubles it sounds like some states may be using Eric's recommendation (sand) :)

The european EN590 spec diesel fuel didn't stop my injectors from failing at 60,000 km.

Like I said, who knows how good enforcement/compliance is.

Also, just my opinion, but if you are running a programmer, all bets are off.

You just read so much here about injector failure horror stories I feel like I am driving the truck with a gun to my head. If they are going to leave me stranded some day I would rather it happen: a) under warranty, b) close to home and c) when I am not pulling a fifth on holiday with the family. I guess the best thing to do is not worry about it and drive. Of all the dmax sold I wonder what the % is that have had injector troubles. People with truck problems seem to holler a little louder than those who are happy. Thanks for the input.
