Hey guys, I am going to attemt wiring a 7 pin trailer plug and my electronic brake box myself. I already have a box, what is a good 7 pin kit for these trucks? And any advice,"how to's" will be appreciated.

most important advise...get a prodigy brake controller...it just plugs in under dash..no spliced wires...and it is one of the best controllers i have used

I would just go to the parts house and pickup a 7pin plug, some wire taps and wire to wire it yourself.
You can find the brake light wires running along the driver side frame rail.
Light Green - reverse
Brown - running/marker & license plate lamp
Yellow - Left turn / Brake
Dark Green - Right turn / Brake
here is a diagram for the plug.

Not on these old dinosaurs. Prodigy is a good brake box though. You will have to tap into the brake switch on the wire that is only hot with the pedal pushed.

well, if you do not like splicing into a factory harness, autozone and I think TSC sells a plug that plugs ringht in with the factory harness in the back right behind the bumper. With that, you'll have a standard 4 pin, then you can splice off of that and run your trailer brake back. I think that the company's name is Hoppy.

Depending on what trailer plugs you will need, I've seen seven pin receptacles with the old four pin receptacles attached which gives you more versatility. I think I saw one at Checker Auto. Get some electronic grade grease to protect your plug spades and receptacles from corrosion and poor contact.

The Prodigy is a good unit. The only problem I haven't been able to solve in the wiring is, if I am going slow up a hill with a trailer and want to use my emergency light flashers, when the light flashes, my trailer brakes go on!

When wiring a splice I like soldering and use a good shrink tubing insulation. A good crimp connection will also work. Liquid electrical insulation can also be used. I do not like the QUICKIE splices that pierce your original wire as it breaks some of the strands and is susceptible to corrosion.
