: DRL and Fog light bulb #'s also Silverstar?

I was about to buy some silverstar 3157 bulbs for my 2004 GMC's daytime running lights but I pulled the bulb out and saw the factory ones were 4114K's. They look just like the 3157's, however...is there any difference?? Will it hurt anything to put 3157's in place of the 4114's??

Also, I was going to buy some silverstar bulbs for my foglights....they are 37 watt # 1490's, I believe. Does anyone know if silverstar makes a 37 watt silverstar replacement? It looked like one of the 55 watt bulbs would fit but I don't want to melt anything (I know that was a problem on the old fog lights).

Good question, I asked the same earlier and got the same response you have so far.

I'll bump it to the top for ya.

They changed to the 4114 to prevent early DRL bulb failure. You can use the 3157 but they burn out quicker.

IMO you don't want silverstars for day time running lights. They will be burnt out way to often. You don't use the DRL bulbs to see anyways so they only thing you would gain is oncoming traffick would see them slightly whiter.

Gave up on the Silverstars; burnt out too fast. BlueOx had suggested the GE Nighthawks; they are working great and I think might output more light. Even my wife asked for the Nighthawks in her car.

Yeah, I realize they burn out quicker but I only put about 8000 miles a year on my truck at most so it doesn't really bother me.

What about the fogs?

Kinda looks weird with some whiter headlights and some "dirtier" fog lights...

sprint,
do the Nighthawks look as "white" as the silverstars?

I changed the DRL's from 4114 to 3157...they work fine. I went to amber DRL's. What is the bulb number on the fogs?? anyone know?? are they 1490??

Duck, I'm not quite sure what you mean, but they don't seem to have that "blue" tint to them that the silverstars seem to have. My wife did not know that I switched from the Silverstars to the Nighthawks except she knew I had a light out. But she remarked that whatever I did, it seemed much better to her also. After a few nights with the Nighthawks, she asked if I could replace the factory's in her Monte Carlo SS and THAT told me something!

The 9005 hi-beam lamp will fit right in. I run Silver Stars in all the lamps including the fogs ( 9005 ). But mine is a 05 Silverado not the Sierra so the fog lamp housing is larger. No melting problems.

The 4114's for the DRL's are 14 volt bulbs.

Sylvania website lists 4157LL as the replacement for the DRL's on '04 Chevs. I got a set of their 3157/4157NALL amber replacements and swapped them last night. They look good. Not sure how long they'll last. It would be nice to find a 4114k with the amber.

DEWFPO, any probs using the _ _ 57 bulbs as replacements (except that they may burn out quicker).

Also, up above someone noted the blue tint of Silverstars in a DRL use. Their replacement bulb looks blue when turned off, but burns amber when turned on (not white).
