also the summit 5" is a cat back. will a 4" down pipe eliminate the cat and bolt right on? and where can you get the down pipe?

It does come with the 4-5 inch pipe that replaces the CAT. There are pics on here...http://dieselplace.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19999&highlight=jegs

I actually ran it straight piped for a day, it souded like a city bus on steroids. I like to fire mine up on high idle in the mornings, and I wouldn't have made any friends with it straight piped. It sounded twice as loud as stock straight piped.

WARNING!!!!.....I had this system on my truck for about 100miles, very loud, especially loud when towing. I drive a 2000hp outlaw 10.5 car and it is not as loud as the 5inch summit. Made the whole truck rattle when full throttle......just a heads up, if thats what you like go for it, but be warned its very loud.

Now you know why I put the Donaldson muffler on mine instead of the muffler that comes with the system, night and day difference... https://dynamic.donaldson.com/webc/WebStore/search/item_detail.html?section=10210&item=22199

mp how much is that muffler? and how would u rate your exhaust sound? have u ever herd duel exhaust? how is it compaired to that?

The Donaldson muffler was 46 USD at a local truck stop, they had it in stock. I had a 4" Magnaflow system with a resonated 5" tip before, this system is slightly louder and much raspier. Would I do it over again for the sound? No. Would I do it over again to have the biggest penis on the road? You betcha!

I'm going to Summit after lunch today and get a 5" system but your previous quote makes me wonder if u don't really like it 'other than the 5" coolness'.

If there were a 5" system available for me when I did the 4", I would have got the 5". I feel stupid that I wasted the money on the 4". I still prefer the overall sound "quality" of the 4", but I believe that was due to the resonated tip. It didn't soud as windy as the 5". But the 5" has a nice "bark" that gets your attention, as well as the ricer next to you. I would get the 5", but remember, I am not using the muffler that came with the system. What I would really like is a 5" muffler that is similar to a Magnaflow (packed/perforated core) but I haven't found one. Also, a buddy that I work with is taking off his exhaust that is identical to my old 4" and ordering the Summit 5" next week. What does that tell you? (other than he wants to be just like me):h )

Thanks Max, I've got a hd truck parts store close by and could get the same muffler u have if I need too.
It's got to be better than a 5" straight pipe.

yeah, I ran the straight pipe for a day, that was enough...

I run a 4"/5" sytem with no muffler and its not too loud in the cab for me. Rather civil at a 70mph cruise supprisingly, although if you get on it it will get your attention. If you get on it every one will look as they assume the world must be coming to an end or something  problem is cops will look too:eek:. You wont make friends with it and you will piss off people when you set off thier alarms in parking decks(it has a pretty low rumble to it). If you care about what people think of you or worry about getting hasseled from the fuzz then dont straight pipe a 5" exhaust, if you dont care who you hack off and like the sound then go for it. The bigger the program the louder it will be when you get on it too, there is a big difference in sound between an extreme and a 90 hp juice on the same exhaust system.

SUM-680007 for the Extended cab version. Fits either short or long bed(has extender pipe).

):h GITR' DONE! Loud pipes save lives:ro)

Actually at a cruise and regular driving I find my exhaust to be supprisingly tame.

I dont know how its set up.....if its a 5"in/5"out muffter then if you want to make it slip fit so you can put your muffler back on if you get a fix or pay ticketand then take it back off after you take it the the police station and get your ticket droped. (not that I have ever had expereince in such matters;) lol):h )

You may need to get 2 short stacks(dont need to be chrome) so you can cut the ends off em and weld the 2 together so its the same lenght as the muffler and you have slip joints on each end. Go to a local big rig shop.....they should be able to hook you up. My muffler was a 4in5out so i had to get a peice of 4" and then a 4" to 5" reducer, al slip fit of corse.

does the 5" smoke more than stock? thats my goal. to be able so completly smoke out the road behind me. i want it to look like a coal train just went by.

ratlover

smoke is fuel related, add more fuel(propane, injectors, programing all of the above) and you get more smoke

yamahagrizzly

i got a programer. it smoke a decent amount the way it is but with the car removed and maybe the muffler will it smoke more? i hope so.

Another way to cheat on switching pipes is to use the flat band clamps then the pipe can be the same size as the front and rear pipes and cut it the same length as the opening, cut the muffler to the same size also.
The flat band clamps let 2 pipes the same size but together.
they also make stepped band clamps for the pipes that have the bell.

This makes it VERY easy to change, loosen clamps slid off pipe or muffler replace and slide back.
Use PLENTY of anti-seeze too.

680006 was the # for CCLB.

I'm using all band clamps on mine (in fact i have them on the shelf since our small dumptruck uses 5" exhaust)

Looked in the box last nite, MAN thats some big pipes ):h

Looks like I've got enough band clamps on the shelf too, just need to figure out how to hang the pipes if I don't use the factory clamps/hangers.

Ohhh decisions..

Its that time of the day again, to spend more money on the truck...

Im between exhausts. I like the product the MBRP (SS duals) offers no doubt. Banks does serve a competive product that I have access to deeper price margins on. From my understanding Banks is louder (which fits my ears) although with all this talk about a 5" kit (Kennedy Diesel etc...) Which is going to put more sound to the road and dont wanna go oh sCensored t..I should of.... I know there are mulitiple opinions on this..but sound for me is good. (I have a loud system to drown it out if needed.) 5" vs 4" / and 4" Banks vs 4" MBRP --excluding price-- just talking product.
