I believe this may have been posted some time ago, but here it is again.

What is better for the Allison when in stop and go traffic with extended idling? In gear or neutral. I would assume neutral would generate less heat?

Any technical insight would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you look in the owners manual, it says not to idle in drive for more than 5 minutes or the tranny could burn up.

So, the answer: NEUTRAL!

I live in CA, so there are times at stoopid loooooooooooooong lights that I put her in nuety just because I see the RPM drop a little and I get better milage. At least so I hope.:p:

EGT's are defintely higher in gear, so the common sense answer would be neutral is better on the trans, converter, and mileage.
