I just posted a new pn in the "Parts Sticky" for these Seal Tabs I picked up from the "stealer" today. The GM pn is 12378254. I searched the parts sticky and they weren't there! So I added them. Then I searched the forum and found this number in several posts. Oops. Guess they were out there already, just not in the parts sticky.

Soooo, what's this pn 10953473 ??? The stealer parts man said the 10953473 was not a good number?

Is the 10953473 another Brand?? I got this number from several threads and the parts sticky.

Anyone set me straight??

I just checked, that PN says it's not an active part, so the new # probably supercedes it. Usually it will say so specifically, but not in this instance.
My 95 service manual says not to use sealtabs in the 6.5 due to a "unique water pump seal".

well 6.2 and 6.5 pretty similar and I used it to seal a hairline crack in my 6.2. However I will say I did have to replace the waterpump and heater core shortly after but still cheaper than a new engine. It's a last resort to use the stuff but I was at the point where the next step was to can the motor.

Thanks guys.

Going to see if I can slow the water loss (into oil pan) down first with the tablets before tearing into the motor.
Might be wishful thinking though!:(

INto the Oil Pan ?
Tabs are not going to fix that. You have a serious engine problem. Does the engine Oil look like peanut butter ?

I know they probably won't, Ace, but what the h***, we (my Pop & I) bot the truck for the frame, so it's worth a try! Was hoping maybe engine was minor problem/fix. We knew it was losing water when we purchased it. Was/am still hoping it's a headgasket. My '93 c&c's frame is really bad behind the cab, well, it's bad everywhere, it's starting to sag!! and GM no longer makes this frame or some of the crossmembers, so we found this 1 ton 4x4 c&c for $3500 with a good frame, good hoist, decent bed and 8ft Meyers plow. We hauled it home because of the water situation and plus the starter was out of it. When we got it home, put a starter on it just to see if it would run. Drove it down the road and back, seem to run ok, but nothing to really test it.

Dad drained the oil but couldn't seem to get any water from it. Didn't have the oil tested, yet. After we topped it off with water/antifreeze, the fill jug was empty the next day and the crankcase was fuller!! It loses the water while it's shutoff, so probably has(best case) bad head gasket, cracked head or worse case, cracked block!?:( We just haven't done anything more with the motor. We have been working on the dump bed for now. This is not a high priority vehicle, used for personal use, so not really in a big hurry.

It just lost it's spot in the garage yesterday, Pop's lost a rearend in his big truck, so we have it in garage swapping out pumpkins between the junk Volkswagen, er I mean Volvo:D and the Freightshaker.

I have been lurking/searching on the forum for the past couple months and have gained much knowledge about the 6.5TD, but we're not sure what we're going to do with the motor yet. I'll keep you updated.

Thanks
Kevin

That's what I thought and it worked for me but I didn't have water in the oil. I would almost guarantee a cracked block. Sorry.

I had an antifreeze leak where the timing chain cover meets the block and I dropped some of those pellets from the dealer in it about 100,000 miles ago and about 2 weeks ago I noticed it was starting to seep again. When I get home this weekend it will get another dose of them.

The GM tablets are manufactured by Bars leak and are just repackaged for GM. GM uses them in most of thier cars and all Aluminum engines and Cadilac's/Northstar engines, they really seem to help the porous aluminum castings. Check out Bar's Leak site for more info, or a Cadilac forum.
