I've put about 6000 miles on my (new to me) 2003 Dodge, 6spd and it's about time for my first oil change. I know it sounds silly to ask but I want to treat my diesel right. (although a few thousand miles in that truck can shake a guy's teeth right loose! I love the pull but next one has to ride better)
It have about 60,000 on it and the temps are about zero here most of this month....brrrrrr! I pull about 12,000lbs. occasionally and run empty often also.
Do I need a "Dodge" filter or can I go to Walmart for a filter? Do I need to do fuel filters? Water seperator??? Where it that anyway? Synthetic oil or just good engine oil?
I'd appreciate a walk-through..... Thanks! :)

I use Delo 400 oil 15w40, which you can buy at Wal-Mart, takes 12 quarts, comes in gallon jugs. You can get the oil filter from www.genosgarage.com, if you want to buy local use either the Dodge dealer or get a Wix or Napa gold from Napa. I would not use a Fram oil filter on it. It is easiest to remove the oil filter from below, I got a oil filter socket at Wal-Mart also it is a True Grip type Q. I like the dino oil, cheaper and I change it often, every 5K miles. The fuel filter is easy to change, you need a 1 1/8" socket to remove the cover, there is a yellow bleed lever on the bottom of the filter housing, drain it first, close the valve, replace the filter, be careful not to tighten the cover too tight as it is plastic, then turn the key to the run posistion without starting a couple times to prime the filter. You can get the filter at the dealer, Genos or Napa. Good luck.

Hey Mike,
Doing well, the stockers are treating me well though they do not look as good as the H2s with the 315s. I think when these wear out I am going to get some 285s, a little better than the 265s and hopefully I can still fit in the garage. Glad the wheels and tires are working out for you, it worked out well for both of us, talk to you latter.

yeah 12 plus 1 in the filter..
= 1 quart overfull... total lube oil capacity is 12 quarts. 11 in the sump and 1 in the filter..
You can get the filter at the dealer, Genos or Napa.
if you have a local cummins dealer/facility, you can get the fleetguard stratapore filters for lube oil and fuel oil from them too... if not local, then genos is a good bet if you live in USA [duty sucks to canada from them :( ] their 4/2/1 kit minus the 1 factory air filter is a good deal
