I have more than one coolant leak & it is still leaking.
First - leaking injector seals. Two were leaking those were fixed. Second - Finally found cold leak @ water pump connection to block. Installed new pump. These are the leaks that were found & repaired. Truck is still using coolant about 1 1/2 qts every 250 miles. When first started coolant loss was 1 1/2 qts every 130 miles. So we are gaining. But dame this is priceeeee.
Pressure test of coolant system seems ok as no pressure loss over night. Compression test of all eight = 400+ all cylinders. This last go round when wtr. pump was installed all glow plugs were pulled & chked for wetness all were dry this indicates that no injector seal was leaking. Now I am down to replacing the heads.
which I have. But is this it or is there something we are overlooking? Have put UV dye in coolant system & chked for leaks. That was the second go round on injector seals. There are no bubbles in cooling system. The upper hose does not get hard. Have installed new main upper & lower radiator hoses. We are looking for a fresh angle before installing new heads which I have. Could this leak be the turbo?
I am hard pressed to think leak is the heads or head gaskets as pressure & compression tests are good. Put on your thinnnking caps folks need help! Maby I need to call in the GHOST BUSTERS to hose this thing out.
Any sugestions would be greatly appreciated & THK's in advance for the help.

What made you replace the injector sleeves? Did you have your injectors replaced? How many miles on your truck? Have you replaced the head gasket yet? The head job is a pricey one if you have the dealer do it. If you do, make sure they have someone that has installed a few. I had a hard time finding someone. You may be leaking coolant into the cylinder head but I would think that you would be losing coolent through the reservoir. I am curious hear of the fix.

Well if it isn't blowing coolant out of the reservoir and the pressurized check and all the above you stated has been done I'd be hard pressed to replace the headgaskets.

The turbo is only cooled by the coolant and wouldn't be leaking to the extent of having no visual sightings of coolant visible.

One thing you don't mention is any visible leaks so I'm assuming you believe it is internal. Not knowing the time frame between all these fixes and draining and refilling the coolant it does take some time to burp out all the air.

If your losing coolant internally it has to be going some where. Either into the cylinder or into the oil. You've done a compression check can a leak down test be done?

Also I would have my oil analyzed and find if coolant is present prior to head gasket replacement.

IF there is none present and your still losing coolant NOT by visible lose than I guess you have no choice but remove the heads.

There is 212 k on truck. The search for the leak/leaks has been going on for about 4-5 mths. There is no coolant in oil. All injectors were change some 80 k ago. The first leak down test was on injector seals fixed one. Test was ok, 2nd UV dye showed up 2nd injector seal leaking redo & leak down test ok. Last was wtr. pump & hoses. Leak down test ok. I guess I am down to the heads. After each fix I drive the truck for approx. 1-2 wks. There are no visable coolant leaks.

Is it possible for the turbo to leak & that be burned? Why I asked that, the tail pipe is nice & dry. The LB7 has got to be burning the coolant!

212K and never had a head gasket replacement? If you search around you will find out that the 01's had head gasket issues because of the gasket itself. I am not saying this is your problem, but I know they fixed the problem in the newer years. Also, if you do the heads, at least replace or have your injector sleeves sealed.

My truck was ingesting coolant, but couldnt find the leak. Any leak for that matter! Went on driving for a day or two and found it to be the head gaskets after talking to Eric @ Merchant Automotive. I had only bought the truck three days before discovering this problem, so needless to say I was concerned, but they fixed it and no problems since. I even checked the level everytime I got fuel for two months until I realized it was going to be fine from here on. Make sure they use the updated head gaskets and torque procedures as they have changed.

You should check around the coolant surge/resevior tank and see if there is residue from coolant puking out of the overflow tube. Thats how I found mine.
