: Predator Update....05 LLY
jeff1216 01-15-2005, 05:56 PM I installed the 65 hp tune yesterday.....Truck felt a little peppier but the tranny did not shift well at all....Felt kinda lazy.....Ran about 100 miles. Shifting smoothed out but still not great.
This morning I figured what the heck...Installed the 85 hp tune on my bone stock 1500 miles on the clock LLY. I can only say :ro)
Shifts like butter and hauls some serious ass!
Decided to do atleast one little launch......Left her in drive.....Stalled motor up to 2k rpm's and let her rip........Does it make power you ask????????
Well the allison tranny left a couple rubber marks thru 1st.....thru 2nd......half way thru 3rd............I am suprised to say the least.
Any negative long term effects to running the Predator on the 85 hp tune?
65hp tune just did not feel right.
turbo lcc 01-15-2005, 07:00 PM I have a buddy the just limped his tranny after 4 day of the 100hp setting not sure about if the 85hp will limp it or not. I have been very happy with mine on 65hp.
lbz492 01-15-2005, 08:10 PM i have been running the 85hp tune in my lly for about a mouth and i haven't had any problems with the trans i have 20,000 miles on the truck now and i have put about a good 5,000 on the 85hp tune.
aegis 01-16-2005, 11:10 PM I'm running the 65 hp and have no problems at all. It will take the tranny a few days to learn the program and it will start shifting better. Personally on a stock truck the 65 hp is plenty without any other mods.
whityinfl 01-17-2005, 02:14 PM WOW...I have never tried the stall up to 2000...that sounds like fun! I am running the 85 hp tune also and love it. It takes a little getting used to on the shifts but it seems to be getting better. I have had mine for only a couple of days and about 100 miles...so I bet by next week the tranny will be used to the extra power. It is hard to tell the additional power on the city streets but on the highway the truck is a monster! Just barely roll on the throttle and you can hear the turbo going to work and you go from 50-80 in a flash. I sure wish I had a boost gauge so I knew what the turbo was doing in comparison to stock. Like everyone else has stated...the engine makes a little more noise, but the extra power is way worth it.
One thing that I get a chuckle about....is on the highway everytime you hit a bump the foot taps the accelerator and the truck just jumps 10 mph. I was showing the GF the extra power on the road and was going about 30 (3rd gear) and just rolled into the throttle a 1/2" and the truck started to fishtail on the slick roads. There needs to be a warning label that comes with this product!
Kennedy 01-17-2005, 04:47 PM I cannot explain with any technical reasoning why, but it seems that the LLY Dmax in particular adapts better after it has some "off time" to recouperate...
Fingers 01-17-2005, 05:44 PM Noticed that. Wonder why?
Cummin_Stroke_this_Dmax 01-17-2005, 10:57 PM I installed the 65 tune and was very impressed with the power increase. The tranny had me a little worried for a while. Later on that same night I bumped it up to the 85 tune, I could definately feel an improvement. Really starting to get concerned about tranny - took as long for it to shift into the next gear as it did to accellerate to the next gear! The next day I turned back down to the 65 tune - tranny seemed to work better. I've noticed that if you go up a tune, put a few 'hard' miles on it and then back down one tune the tranny seems to shift almost normal. Just my observation. I've also done some 'testing' on the 100 tune, very limited testing since I have no exhaust mods and when I do I lock it out of OD. WOW, that's impressive! And smoke - hell yeah! I'm waiting for much warmer weather to really start playing with it.
One question though: does anyone know if it's okay to run elevated idle on the 85 and 100 tune? When on 65 that programing stayed in (elev. idle) when I switch to the 85 or 100 it takes the elev. idle off, is that because it'll harm the engine running at 1,200 to warm up?
A few more questions: has anyone viewed the real time data screens? On one of the screens it shows Boost, but mine never changes from 0.00, why? Also, what are the balance rates? I'm assuming that they are injector balance rates but what do those numbers tell me? I have 4 injectors pretty close and 4 injectors quite a bit off in both directions +/-, what does that mean?
tbyrne 01-21-2005, 10:45 PM I'm running the 65hp setting and plan on going to the 85 after I install my exhaust tomorrow. Jumping up to the 100hp setting adds alot more torque -
40 RWHP and 100-ft/lb
65 RWHP and 140-ft/lb TQ
85 RWHP and 170-ft/lb TQ
100 RWHP and 250-ft/lb TQ
That is the jump that can be bed for the tranny.
I haven't played with the elevated idle or data screens yet.
jmg343 01-22-2005, 01:03 AM can someone explain what you mean by stalling the motor up to 2000 rpms? you mean like doing a brakestand?
Dmax Tim 01-22-2005, 05:26 AM can someone explain what you mean by stalling the motor up to 2000 rpms? you mean like doing a brakestand?
Yep, power braking, stand on the brakes and go pedal.
McRat 01-22-2005, 09:33 AM Put is 4wd, hold the brake down, floor it, wait till it hits 2500rpm and launch.
YEE!!! HAW!!!
Like getting shot outta cannon.
gtaylor 01-22-2005, 05:38 PM jmg343 in your profile it says you have a KTM thumper. What do you have. I just bought an ecx 525 after a 15 year break from bikes. I love it. LOTS O power.
jmg343 01-22-2005, 09:02 PM ive got the 520 sx and a 450 sx they are both sick!!! I love them, I used to be a two stroker but these 4s are like farm tractors on steroids. I wouldnt trade em for the world. Only reason I got the 450 is cause its a bit lighter which allows me to go faster and corner harder on the motocross track. In the woods, desert, or any wide open areas the 520 cant be beat, its a wheelie machine.
as for the stalling the motor, thats what i figured. One other question though. How bad do they REALLY reef on your tranny? and, do you leave it in D? I find if I do a brakestand with the truck in D it wants to shift at about 2000, 2100 rpms and the rear wheels seem to loose a bit of their momentum, slow down.
diesel man 01-22-2005, 10:36 PM yes
nosliw 01-22-2005, 11:16 PM predators website says that it wont hurt our trannys
you think if i call them and ask if running the 100hp tune on a stock allison will limp it they will say no?
coyotekid 03-21-2005, 11:24 PM Don't plan on having an unhurt stock Alli for long if you're running the Predator's top tune. You will roast it for sure. I never ran more than 65 on a stock tranny, and most of the time it was 40.
If you wanna run the 100, I'd suggest tranny upgrades as a MUST!
