I have been searching for air box mods for my 95. Are there any pictures out there of a 97+ 6.5 air box? Also, does anyone have pics of some home made air intakes? One that I saw was made of two blue hoses with 90* bends. I can not find it now. Someone's garage? any help on either Q would be appreciated. Thanks, Matt

Here's a link to a old thread on the subject, there's some pictures of my round filter setup in there.

On my 95 I took a piece of 3" PVC and put a filter from a 98 HD on the PVC and put the PVC in the rubber elbow.

one is in my garage.
A nice setup would be a 1997 air box, with opened intake from fender, + hi flow filter (S&B, or else)

Thanks guys, I like the filters in a box to keep the heat out. matuva, where did you get your blue hose elbow? Ill have to make it to a junkyard to check out a 97 box. How would a 97 box compare to an intake like the one you have?
9c1cap, I like your metal box measurements. Does that fit nice and snug on the hood? Thanks, Matt

I bought those blue silicon elbows at the great auction site. I will PM you the link to the vendor (cheap) when I'll be back home.
I think a 1997 box will do as well as my stainless steel box, even better, as it is made of plastic and doesn't collect heat from engine bay.
I have taken out mine at the moment because I realised that the walls of the box were gathering heat and then were becoming very hot too, so air inside might be hot too.
I have to insulate it, polystyrene inside, and heatshield blanket outside, then I'll put it back.

Not exactly, I used 3/4" pipe insulation to seal to the hood. Leaves plenty of room to access battery and side terminals.....Just have to notch the top corners to fit under the fender lip. And I put 1/4-20 studs in the factory box mount so the aluminum box mounts tight to that....
