Hey,

was doing some routine maintnance last night, changed the oil, cleaned the air filter and changed the fuel filter... started it up, it fired for a second off of the diesel that was left over in the line then died... now just cranks really fast.... I realized after I did everything that I was supposed to open the air bleed and turn the key to on and wait for it to bleed... but I forgot... now I get nothing out of the bleeder.

I am going to try the suggested method of running air into the return line tonight but thought I would ask to make sure that it is going to solve my problem.

Is there a pump in the tank or somewhere other than the IP? I can not hear it running. The service fuel filter light came on the other day on the highway for a couple seconds, and I have also noticed a little surging and hesitation at the first few stops after leaving from the motor being cold... this could have all been filter related, just hoping the pump did not happen to go by fluke while I was servicing the filter...

also is there anywhere to adjust the idle?

Thanks!

Priming fuel Lines

There are several ways to do this. I got an extra gas cap, removed the unnecessary parts and drilled a hole thru the cap and installed a rubber tire valve. Put a clear piece of plastic tubing on the return line on the IP. Pressurize the tank to 4 - 5 psi and watch for solid fuel without bubbles returning to the tank thru the clear platic tubing. When finished, replace the rubber tubing and gas cap.

Sounds like you just need to bleed the system. shouldn't take more than 10 min.

Lift pump depends on which truck you are working on. if it's the 6.2 it will have a mech. lift pump. it's located on the passenger side of the engine down low under and behind the Alt. if it's the 6.5 you have two fuel pumps not counting the IP. one in the tank, and one of the frame rail on the drivers side about 3/4 the way up.

sounds like the running problem was filter related

the internet really spoils me anymore when i have an issue with a vehicle . and people share info. in real life most mechanics don't share much . that is how they protect their living.
