:D I talked to the dealer about my California 05 GMC LLY and how they are getting around the code issue with the new trucks. :ro) They have 05 new custom trucks on the lot with no cat and no codes. ):h I mean lifted, chiped, intake, and exhaust like you would want. Asked how they fixed the code problem and there answer was to use a hypertech programer. ;) That they have some one do the mod. Now this is the amazing thing, they stand behind the mod. I then asked about the warranty they said no problem but could not say what other dealers would do like if I were on a Vacation. This is a California truck. He was really cool about the whole thing. Asked about flashing the computer he said no problem that if I heard about a new flash that they would take care of it no problem. They then told me where I could get the custom work done:D

Duane, Let me know when you get yours done, what they used to get rid of the codes. There may be more than what the dealer is saying.

I believe mine has federal emissions as I bought it in FL. I don't know if I would get codes by removing the cat or not. I have been reading several posts on this and haven't yet decided to remove cat or not.

NCMIC.....shouldn't be a problem to remove the cat on your truck....the codes maybe stored in the dic but no SES light.

I agree- specifically regarding 2005 models:
"Federal Emissions" trucks will not turn on the SES light for EGR codes, although they will be stored in the computer's memory.
"California Emissions" trucks will turn on the SES for all EGR codes. (some on the second failure).

 I guess when I get the exhaust on I will see if the dealer is giving the right info or the trucks that they sell are runing around with codes on them?

Doesn't Ca. have strict laws about messing with the Cat.? Don't you also have to get your car smogged every year, in which the Catalytic Converter is essential?

California dosent have to smog Diesel.:D But I will keep the original exhaust just incase they change there minds and start smoging diesel's. Besides how can the dealer get away with it? Now all I have to do is find the best sounding exhaust. My wife says that it is too quiet that she dosent here me come in the drive  like my old truck "94 1500 5.7 4x4 4"lift sport side bed flow master dual out the back" I have herd some say that there exhaust sounds some what like a big block gas. Any one know of a good one with out a lot of in cab drone?

I'm running a Banks monster, turbo back no Cat. Sounds excellent. Nice low rumble that is not overpowering in anyway. Depends on what you want to spend, many systems out there for low $'s. I had a generic on my 6.5 & it sounded mean, heavy turbo whine & deep. I don't believe any system out there is going to be too loud, save no muffler. By the way No Codes on my Banks.

Yep it through codes and cut power. Sounded great but the wife said that it was too loud.Erased the codes ran for 2 days before seting another code. Put the kity on now no codes and the wife is happy. Man those cool duals look good. With cat back they sound better than stock. Well I guess I will see how the EGT are when I hook up the TT and go camping can't wait Love the truck. One thing nice obout the duals is when some one is riding your rear put edge on 4 and choke then out from behind you.Black smoke out bouth sides is better than one.No where to hide to:lol:
