I just changed the spin-on filter and changed over to amsoil atf fluid in my trans. This isn't the first time i changed it, and i don't know how i forgot but, some how and some way i forgot to put the spin-on filter magnet back on the new filter.. Well yes i do, pizza guy came mid change.
Questions:
1) Is it imperitive that i have this magnet in the filter?
2) Can it wait till I do another fluid change.
3) I have a strong magnet on the bottom of the filter just in case will this suffice?
I have 19000 miles on my truck.
Thanks Chris

1st, if the magnet was there when i bought the truck i assume its pretty nesecary and im keeping mine.
2nd, why not just spin the filter back off and put the magnet back in? all your tranny fluid wont come pourin out on you.

I've seen them stuck to the bottom of the pan already as the tech must've realized that he forgot it.
Personally, I run a filtermag in addition to the OE unit. I've found a LOT of gunk on the Filtermag that the OE unit simply wasn't strong enough to grab and hold.

The magnet i have on the bottom of the spin-on is alot stronger and larger than the oem one that goes on the top of it. Do you think this will suffice until i change it again? IF no, how much fluid will come out if i take off the spin-on only.
Thanks Chris
I just read a bunch of other posts and have to add that i'm using a wix filter and the last time i changed it also was a wix. The magnet i took off wasn't all that dirty. Makes me wonder if the large magnet will work till the next change and then i'll go with the stock filter for the ally.
