: Useful fuel filter & WIF sensor wrenches?
ErnieStu 02-11-2008, 08:04 PM It's a dumb question I know, but...
I read the sticky on fuel filter changes and have been tracking related discussions, but would appreciate a recommendation for a fuel filter wrench that works on an '06LBZ. My oil filter wrench is too small, NAPA's largest on the shelf is too small, and I'm not sure I trust myself with channellocks for the WIF sensor fitting. Where do I find the golden ticket?
Thanks.

mschuyler 02-11-2008, 08:34 PM $30.00 for a WIF wrench is pretty steep. I got one [staff edit]from ebay[/staff edit] for a total of $10.00 that looks just the same. It arrived a few days ago and is nice and hefty. I can't see paying $20 extra bucks for the same thing myself. Snap-on also makes a WIF socket, though I haven't found a source for that. My oil filter wrench works fine on the filter. It's a little tight, but fully opened it fits on there just fine.

I think I will stay with the supporting vendors....worth the extra couple bucks in the end when you need help with something, maybe not the wif sensor or filter but it never hurts to know people, thats one thing Ebay cant give yah, just my .02

Not a problem at all, if you need one give Jen a call at MA and she will get it out FIRST THING...
cuffnup 02-11-2008, 09:49 PM i agree stay with the vendors...and buy a strap wrench to get the filter off
CSILVERADO 02-11-2008, 10:25 PM I bought a strap wrench that my 3/8 rachet goes into. Works great. ***While you're at it buy the wrench to remove the water sensor!
junior supercar 02-12-2008, 12:32 PM I found out something the hard way and some of you have probably encountered this as well. I didn't have the specific WIF sensor wrench the first couple filter changes so I had to use channel locks on the plastic sensor. Well I have since bought the correct wrench from Lisle and it worked great ..... until my last change. Evidently enough of the plastic sensor has been chewed away that now the WIF wrench doesn't grab the sensor to remove it. so now the only way to change is the channel locks.
Schweinmesser 02-12-2008, 01:59 PM i keep a Lisle WIF wrench in my truck and i keep the MA wrench in my tool box in the garage. i went ahead and ordered a spare WIF sensor from MA also to keep since the first time i changed my WIF sensor, i used channel locks, which of course marked up the WIF sensor a bit, even though i was super careful.

Vegged Sierra 03-15-2008, 06:17 PM New to the message board and I could use some help. I have a 6.5 Sierra and I need to change the fuel filter. All past mechanics have used the plier oil filter wrenches to turn the plastic cap so it's jacked. Just got a new cap and I've been trying to find the correct tool to use to remove it. Can somebody tell me if it is the same wrench that you are discussing in this thread or another? I've tried to locate one online but have had no luck.
Thanks!

The tool being discussed here is for the Duramax .. it wont fit the 6.5 filter .. I used to own a 6.5 and I remember just removing the filter retaining cap by hand ..If it's stuck maybe a large channel lock pliers would work ..
